Position Summary:

Samsung Research America Digital Health Team is looking for a Director, Digital Biomarkers and digital Health with a solid AI / ML technology background and strong research (R&D) experience in leading the development of digital biomarkers, wearable computing, physiological signal processing, and multi-modality mobile sensing development leveraging wearables, health devices, and health data. You must have a strong track record of success in biomarker development from academic and/ or industry settings.

You will lead our biomarker team with a strong vision, create product concepts, enable data and clinical studies, develop algorithms, ensure consumer and clinical value, and progress products toward the goal of commercialization and deployment at scale.

In delivering innovation in the digital health domain, you will lead the team to achieve research excellence as demonstrated by novel technologies and approaches, intellectual property, and scientific publications and presentations in top-tier computing and health venues.We are looking for an experienced leader who will lead the team to develop, incubate, and launch a portfolio of biomarkers and digital health products that will disrupt the current paradigm and challenge what is possible with wearable based biomarkers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of innovative algorithms and biomarkers based on signal from an array of sensors and devices, data collected both in lab and field settings, and health data from consumers, and healthcare providers.
  • Prepare proof-of-concept, demo/prototypes, design and execute pilot studies with mobile sensors.
  • Lead team with proactive, hands-on leadership and real-time feedback and coaching. Develop talent and grow the capabilities of the team
  • Provide technical guidance, manage projects, and ensure deliverables and milestones are met.
  • Generate patents and scientific research papers for top-tier publications.
  • Ensure strong external partnerships and internal collaboration.

Required Skills:

  • PhD. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biophysics, Mathematics, health or biological sciences. Or, alternatively, M.D. / D.O. with equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in designing, conducting, and leading biomarker research leveraging wearable devices, health /medical devices, and EHR/EMR health data, and conducting clinical studies with human subjects both in lab and field settings.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in Image Processing, Machine Learning, Signal Processing, and their applications on mobile sensor data collected in the lab and in the wild.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, ability to present complex information understandably and compellingly, and comfortable working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Good understanding of human physiology, and non-invasive sensors used to measure digital biomarkers for health and behavior monitoring.
  • Understanding of human factors, user research, usability, and ensuring that biomarkers provide clear and unique insights and value.
  • Have a working knowledge of the healthcare industry and experience curating and analyzing healthcare and wellness data.
  • Previous experience developing algorithms in healthcare research/industry using EMR/EHR and wearable sensor data.
  • Experience operating under HIPAA is a plus.
  • A record of publications and presentations in top-tier computing and health venues.
