Responsibilities:

The Director of Resident Care plans, implements, directs, and monitors effective Assisted Living and Memory Care systems in accordance with Spectrum's philosophy, policies, resident rights, and state regulations. Utilizes effective interpersonal communication and leadership skills to motivate team members in providing quality care and services to promote and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Implement, coordinate, and manage person-centered care based on Spectrum's philosophy, mission, and core values
  • Direct resident well-being according to State regulations to ensure appropriate and acceptable standards of care and adequate staffing
  • Maintain a working knowledge of state regulations, policies, and procedures, dictated for compliance
  • Operate within budgetary parameters
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director recruit, select, supervise, mentor, appraise and counsel caregiving team members according to Spectrum policies and procedures
  • Facilitate initial and ongoing training for caregiving team members as well as other community team members as necessary and as applicable based on State-specific regulations as well as Spectrum policies and procedures
  • In conjunction with the community's multidisciplinary team, coordinate the resident admission process including screening, assessment, care planning and team assignments
  • Ensure appropriate delivery of services as identified in resident care plans by delegating and communicating verbal and written expectations to caregiving team members
  • Participate in ongoing resident assessment and determination of care needs as required by State-specific regulations and Spectrum's policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with external services providers to ensure the most appropriate and highest level of service is provided to each resident
  • Review and coordinate completion of incident reports in accordance with Spectrum policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, FDA, and Fire safety standards relative to clinical systems and resident care
  • Ensure 7-day per week activity programming appropriate for individuals in both areas of the community
  • Ensure effective resident council, family council and support group meetings in accordance with State-specific regulations and Spectrum policies and procedures
  • Maintain networks with external organizations that specialize in senior care and memory impairment issues in order to keep informed and up to date on current trends in treatment and research

Requirements:

  • Strong background in assessing residents' behavioral symptoms and developing non-pharmacologic approaches to meeting residents' needs
  • Enhanced qualifications: BSN, LPN, advanced certification in geriatric care, previous experience in an assisted living or residential care environment
  • Meet the State qualifications and training requirements for the position
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule staff, orient staff, do timecards, supply inventory, billing services
  • Must have basic computer skills - login/logoff, e-mail, documents, spreadsheets and entering data
  • Must be medically able and willing to wear a NIOSH-approved tight-fitting respirator (N95 mask), if required by and in accordance with federal or state regulations or Spectrum policy.
  • For Illinois: bachelor's degree with documented course work in dementia care, plus one year of experience working with individuals with dementia; or at least two years' management experience with individuals with dementia
  • At least two years of management experience in directing/providing special care for seniors and/or persons with dementia preferred
