The opportunity

The Group Functions Technology team is the primary IT delivery partner for multiple corporate areas, accelerating business capabilities to enable productivity and employee experience globally. The functions supported by GFT include:
  • Corp. Finance & Capital Management
  • Actuarial & Reinsurance
  • Global Risk Mgmt.
  • Law, Compliance, Gov't Relations
  • Audit & Advisory Services
  • HR & Communications
  • Global Operations (incl. Procurement, Corp. Real Estate, and Treasury)
  • Corp. Marketing
The position of Director of Automation plays a leadership role within GFT, overseeing the delivery and strategy of a Centre of Excellence.

In this role you will report to the VP, Technology Strategy & Operations, leading a team of 40 to plan and deliver automation solutions leveraging Microsoft Power Platform and Automation Anywhere.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct oversight of automation workflow and web development following software development lifecycle best practices, serving Group Functions (incl. GBS) and other Manulife stakeholders
  • Oversee platform migrations such as A360
  • Management of vendor relationships, e.g., Automation Anywhere
  • Provide governance over and review of pipeline(intake) of automation ideas / use cases for GBS
  • Manage contract budget and licensing with strategic vendors
  • Sustain workflows in production, ensuring incidents and enhancements are addressed
  • Guide and lead delivery teams through function-specific capabilities / processes such as workforce management, work intake, and coaching

What we are looking for
  • Strong background in software development, business relationship management, and program delivery
  • 10+ years working experience in technology or other software development environment
  • Sound knowledge of the Group Functions processes and related data considerations
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytic and problem solving skills
  • Good people leadership skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, both in written form and orally
  • Ability to influence functional and technical stakeholders
  • Advanced organizational skills with ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Boston, Massachusetts Salary range is expected to be between

$120,610.00 USD - $223,990.00 USD If you are applying for this role outside of the primary location, please contact for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
