We're seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Corporate Tax Manager to join our Finance team. This role is located in New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA - HYBRID.

In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
  • Drives the strategic corporate tax projects within a business/business partner area, across multiple businesses/business partner areas and/or regions.
  • Manages corporate tax activities through more junior staff.
  • If needed, manages the performance of more junior corporate tax staff, coaching and guiding on corporate tax and strategy.
  • Sets specialty priorities and allocates resources to align with organization-wide market risk objectives.
  • Has an expert understanding of tax laws and regulations.
  • Recognized within the business as a leader in addressing tax related matters and establishing policy.
  • Serves as an escalation point for complex corporate tax issues or roadblocks, and shepherds issues through to resolution.
  • Leads consultation on tax issues, questions and problems and provides guidance to senior business managers and more junior corporate tax managers.
  • Works across global and regional groups to communicate tax matters effectively to senior business management. Leverages nuanced tax techniques to achieve business objectives.
  • Is accountable for leading the resolution of highly complex business tax issues.
  • Establishes a comprehensive corporate tax infrastructure.
  • Leads the implementation of the corporate tax strategy for more junior staffs and ensures the appropriate level of tax awareness of responsibilities among more junior managers.
  • Makes decisions, contributes to consensus building and manages a large virtual organization that balances market risk with other business objectives.
  • Works with other business units, operations and technology and liaises with legal and compliance staff in relation to laws and regulations.
  • Acts and influences on behalf of corporate management to guide all tax staff into compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Represents compliance with policies and standards to corporate management, internal and external auditors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Reviews reports on team metrics results and makes team adjustments as needed to align performance with functional objectives.
  • Coaches and guides more junior managers on improving the execution of the complicated tax activities and achievement of multi-faceted goals.
  • Manages development and talent management processes for more junior managers and a team of corporate tax staff.
  • Coaches and counsels more junior managers, determines staffing and compensation recommendations and leads in hiring and termination decisions.
  • Directly manages more junior staff and market risk staff and ensures their focus on daily tasks to deliver on initiatives.
  • Responsible for the achievement of goals and objectives, talent management and supervision of corporate tax staff.
  • Completion of tasks may affect organizational achievement of objectives. Modified based upon local regulations/requirements.

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 12-15 years of total work experience with at least 3-5 years in management preferred.
  • Experience in tax at a large Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm or law firm preferred

BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $147,000 and $273,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.

This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
