Job Title: Mechanical CAD Designer (Level C) Job Code: 8695 Job Location: Plano, TX Job Description: As a CAD Designer, you will provide CAD design and documentation services in support of mechanical and electrical engineers. Working under limited supervision you will work closely with engineering to develop new conceptual designs, document those designs with fully dimensioned engineering drawings and update documentation with change notices. The Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) division is a part of L3Harris' Agile Development Group and specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience. Essential Functions: Create CAD models of custom machined parts and assemblies.
Conceptualize new design solutions.
Document design requirements with fully defined engineering drawings.
Research COTS components for suitability to requirements.
Update documentation per engineering direction.
Create drawings for Circuit Card Assemblies, electrical cables, & other electro-mechanical assemblies.
Perform trade studies between design alternatives.
Occasional local travel may be required.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications: Ability to obtain and maintain any additional clearances as required.
Requires fully proficient job knowledge/skills. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
Mastery of CAD modeling best-practices.
Strong 3D visualization aptitude.
Proficient with CAD softwares; Solidworks and/or CREO.
Preferred Additional Skills: Active Secret clearance preferred.
2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
Competency in ANSI/ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
Excellent people skills, collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
Experience in metal fabrication processes.
Experience with electronics packaging and CCA design.
Experience with Windchill.
Experience with military special hardware.
Experience with aerospace industry design practices.
