The Position Contra Costa County is seeking a Deputy Director of Public Works for the Public Works Department. Under administrative direction of the Public Works Director, formulates, develops, and implements Public Works related programs, plans and functions for Contra Costa County; manages and directs the operation of the various programs in the Public Works Department, including program planning and implementation, resource assessment and management, policy guidance and administration; represents the County on State, regional and local committees relating to County-wide Public Works issues and performs other related duties as required. This classification is EXEMPT from the merit system and is not subject to the guidelines set forth in the Personnel Management Regulations. Out of State valid Motor Vehicle Operator's will be accepted during the application process. Registration: Deputies responsible for Flood Control, Road Maintenance, Transportation Engineering, Engineering Services, and Design & Construction must possess a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers. Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying, A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business management or administration, public administration, engineering or a closely related field. Experience: Six (6) years of progressive full-time, or its equivalent experience, in a managerial/supervisory or administrative capacity in one or more of the following areas: Engineering, facilities or field maintenance, flood control, project management, personnel management, land acquisition and property management or finance.
