DENTIST/ FULL TIME/ BWH BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER - JAMAICA PLAIN / BOSTON ABOUT BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER: Brookside is a licensed Health Center of Brigham and Women's Hospital and provides multi-disciplinary, comprehensive care with services in a range of medical areas including: Adult and Pediatric Primary Care, OB/GYN, Family Planning, Dental/Oral Surgery, Nutrition/WIC, and Behavioral Health. Each year, more than 11,000 patients from Jamaica Plain and the city of Boston use these services, producing more than 69,000 visits to Brookside each year. The health center's services are provided by a bilingual English/Spanish medical and professional staff. Brookside is Certified as a level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home, which reinforces our long-standing commitment to comprehensive team-based care. Brookside is a teaching site for Harvard Medical School, Mass General Institute of Nursing, Harvard Dental School, Boston University Dental School, as well as other Boston area health care professional programs. GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: This position works independently, performing General Dentistry functions. Responsible for the care of own patients, and reports to the Dental Director for consultation and administrative support. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Diagnosis and treatment planning for adult and pediatric patients. Providing emergency care (oral surgical skills for routine exodontias desirable). Providing direct comprehensive dental care; including routine endodontic, prosthodontic, and pedodontic treatments. Assists in supervising dental residents and students and being responsible for the care they provide (teaching experience desirable). Assist in the supervision of the care provided by the hygienist. Direct supervision over dental assistant. Monitor supply system. Participate in mandatory continuing education requirements. Work cooperatively with other departmental personnel in achieving center-wide health maintenance goals. Communicate and relate well with clients. QUALIFICATIONS: Requires excellent general dentistry knowledge and Mass. License. Fluency in Spanish desirable. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of dental development and treatment of pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. General practice residency or general dentistry (3-5 years) experience preferred. Graduate of accredited dental school. Teaching experience desirable. Functions performed require good clinical skill and judgement in areas of acute, short term and comprehensive dental care. Performs independently within the dental practice laws. Is accountable to the Dental Director on administrative issues. The provider is personally accountable for own patient care. Requires ability to work harmoniously with colleagues within the dental department to ensure the complete delivery of care, and other health professionals within the comprehensive medical environment. Those necessary to perform quality comprehensive dentistry; familiarity and skill in performing the dental specialties in general practice. WORKING CONDITIONS: Generally pleasant. Controlled exposure to x-rays, dental materials, noise and communicable diseases. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for the performance of assistant. Assist in supervision of dental students and hygienists.
