Essential Function
The Dean provides overall leadership for the School of Health Careers and Public Service, ensuring quality learner-centered general education instruction and assisting chairpersons, coordinators and faculty achieve their departmental missions and objectives. Other major functions include supervision of faculty, recommending new and revised courses and curricula, developing and maintaining partnerships that support the curricula, and assisting in complex problem solving. Particular emphasis is placed upon ensuring quality instruction to prepare students for certification/licensure as required for entry level and upward career mobility through programs which meet criteria established by state and specific regulatory agencies.

Qualifications
Education: Masters degree in Education or Health-related field with major in Administration or related field. Doctorate degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of five years work experience in a health occupation or health education field. Minimum of five years teaching or administrative experience in post-secondary education. A strong background in program development, instructional staff evaluation, budget and instructional facilities management is desired. Experience in community colleges preferred.

Knowledge: Basic knowledge of health care and health care delivery systems in the United States. Basic knowledge of health professions and educational programs.

Skills: Demonstrated leadership in managing post-secondary health care programs which meet essential state and regulatory agencies approval/accreditation. Demonstrated experience in personnel and fiscal management. Demonstrated skill in program development and evaluation of health careers and public service programs. Demonstrated skills in grant writing and management. Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, administrators, and support personnel in the two year community college environment. Excellent communication skills. Excellent planning and project management skills. Ability to appreciate, understand and work effectively with a diverse population.

Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership in the development, growth and review of health and public service programs.

2. Through department chairpersons and program coordinators plan, implement and evaluate programs to remain responsive to health care delivery in the community.

3. Through department chairpersons and program coordinators initiate program development, review and/or revise curricula to meet accreditation requirements, recruit, select and promote students.

4. Promote and support a culture of innovation in academic programming and delivery.

5. Review and approve program schedules, including classroom, laboratory and clinical schedules.

6. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with clinical sites for students and employment opportunities for graduates.

7. Promote and support advisory committees for all occupational programs.

8. Direct the preparation of self-studies and on-site reviews essential for program accreditation.

9. Recruit, select and make recommendations for employment of qualified faculty and staff necessary to meet department objectives and goals.

10. Review and sign-off on faculty assignments every school term.

11. Supervise and evaluate activities of department chairpersons, program coordinators, faculty and staff.

12. Encourage and support staff development activities.

13. Develop and monitor annual budgets for various cost centers in area of responsibility, specifically budget control, coding and processing of requisitions.

14. Supervise procurement of equipment and supplies necessary for program operations.

15. Make recommendations for maintenance and updating of facilities and equipment in all classrooms and laboratories for health programs.

16. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
