DCBOH PH Workforce - Community Outreach Specialist The DeKalb County Board of Health (DCBOH) Public Health Workforce Initiative aims to increase the public health workforce by providing opportunities for learning experiences and on-the-job training to advance more equitable health outcomes for underserved communities in DeKalb County, Georgia. Members will work with DCBOH's program staff to learn how to manage and operate public health-related programs that will help meet communities' public health needs by providing capacity, support, and increased awareness of COVID-19 testing and vaccinations. The members' roles and responsibilities will focus on community engagement, health promotion, and support and direct services. This is a three quarter-time position, living allowance of $13,110.00, 1200 hours during the service year, 25 to 30 hours per week, and a college graduate is required. The member will work on various teams in the Health Assessment and Promotion Department to support chronic disease and injury prevention efforts. The Chronic Disease Prevention team activities will address poor nutrition and physical inactivity by raising awareness of the DCBOH initiatives in these areas. The Injury Prevention team will focus on substance abuse, pedestrian safety, and youth violence prevention. The member will serve as a team member in conducting education and promotion activities regarding chronic disease and injury prevention programs to raise awareness. Key roles and responsibilities include: creating and distributing educational and promotional materials to support outreach efforts; locating events to conduct outreach activities; helping community members to navigate and access community services, and other resources, and adopting healthy behaviors; and supporting mobile units' deployment efforts regarding chronic disease and injury prevention activities. • Serve as a team member in conducting education and promotion activities regarding chronic disease and injury prevention programs
• Identify and create education and promotional materials to support outreach efforts
• Locate upcoming events to conduct outreach activities
• Compile and help to maintain a list of community resources
• Help community members to navigate and access community services, and other resources, and adopt healthy behaviors
• Maintain current knowledge about community resources appropriate to the needs of patients/families.
• Support mobile units' deployment efforts regarding chronic disease and injury prevention activities
• Act as a liaison between the patient/family and community service agencies.
• Attend regular staff meetings, training, and other meetings, as requested.
• Contribute to overall team effort by managing and completing other duties as assigned.
