POSITION TITLE Day Treatment Teacher LOCATION Shaw Academy REPORTS TO Director, Project SAFE Harbor WORK WEEK SCHEDULE Monday-Friday WORK HOURS Full-Time / Part-Time NUMBER OF MONTHS PER YEAR 10 NATURE OF WORK: The Day Treatment Teacher provides appropriate special education services to students who are presenting with severe emotional or behavioral issues due to violence and trauma, in coordination with other intensive Day Treatment Program (DTP) staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional Duties may be assigned. Coordinates and leads IEP meetings Collects necessary DEC forms for IEP team meetings; ensures compliance Supports development of IEPs and communicates with teachers, staff, and families Ensures that needed student evaluations/screenings are completed Plans instructional program for intensive Day Treatment students, incorporating learner objectives compatible with subject, grade, curriculum, and student needs Maintains effective program by establishing and maintaining knowledge of subject areas and child growth and development Encourages students, parents, and others to become actively involved in instruction Assesses student abilities to devise techniques to best accommodate student learning Monitors individual student achievement on a continuous basis, employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs, and provides remediation as required Uses professional classroom management techniques to maintain a suitable instructional environment Makes use of community resources, student talent, volunteers, and other school personnel to enhance the instructional program Shows respect for the dignity and worth of all students, values cultural differences, and maintains communication with parents Conducts self in a manner that promotes a safe, secure, and orderly environment Fosters a climate of respect within the school Completes and updates transition plans for students in collaboration with other DTP staff; meets with DTP staff every 30 days to discuss progression REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree or higher Must possess dual certifications in General Education and Exceptional Children Knowledge of curriculum Knowledge of referral and placement procedures
