SUMMARY

The Database Administrator acts as a technical liaison to business units, vendors and consultants to ensure efficient design and consumption of SQL resources. The position manages, maintains, and monitors all aspects of the Enterprise SQL Servers and instances including but not limited to, Disaster Recovery, Maintenance, Developing ETL Processes, Integrating 3rd party data sources, Performance tuning, and support end user database related issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Create excellent service experiences that promote the Veridian brand.
  • Maintains and applies up to date, specialist knowledge of database concepts, object and data modelling techniques and design principles, and a detailed knowledge of the full range of database architectures, software and facilities available.
  • Responsible for implementing physical database changes.
  • Administer and maintain SQL database cluster and Microsoft clustering environment systems to offer the highest reliability and performance possible.
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends.
  • Set up alerts to proactively recognize SQL performance issues and to minimize false alarms.
  • Create and maintain routine DB Maintenance functions such as table indexing, views, backups, SQL Server log reviews/error corrections, database creation and changes and scheduled replication of databases.
  • Develop and maintain Azure Data Warehouse utilizing Data Lake, Databricks, and Azure DataFactory.
  • Administer and maintain log ship, database mirroring, high availability databases at DR location and conduct regularly documented tests to confirm we have Business Continuity Procedures in place and that they work as needed.
  • Monitors database activity and resource usage to prevent bottlenecks and contention before it occurs.
  • Create and maintain procedures and documentation for all aspects of database and SQL server administration in a highly secured enterprise environment adhering to PCI regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate new SQL Server features to optimize efficiency and query execution plans.
  • Implement and maintain Business Intelligence software and hardware, and other applications as appropriate for on demand report generation, scheduling and delivery.
  • Support Business/Data Analysts and their projects by developing processes and objects that align with standards and best practices as well as aid with problematic queries.
  • Design custom reports as requested by management staff using SSRS, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, and or other methods.
  • Work with third party vendors and other internal department staff on any application using SQL or other complex database structures or database connections.
  • Develop SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages to automate processes and manage production data files.
  • Perform basic PowerShell and Command line scripting.
  • Assist with administration of Oracle services including application integrations, SQL scripting, patching, user administration, and installing Oracle Prod DML updates using internal Change Management processes.
  • Assist Core with DNA core financial system upgrades.
  • Implement and administer Business Intelligence software (Power BI, Business Objects, SSAS, SSRS) and hardware, and other applications as appropriate for on demand report generation, scheduling and delivery.
  • Assist with maintaining the enterprise data warehouse structures and look for new sources of data to expand the business intelligence reporting capabilities.
  • Communicate database changes to affected parties and document changes.
  • Administer and maintain third party data warehouse application Data Librarian.
  • Develop and manage ETL processes using Intellectual Dimensions Data Librarian and SSIS packages.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a security scheme for the database environment, as well as assisting in disaster recovery, while maintaining data integrity.
  • Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database systems.
  • Look beyond the present environment and day to day processes and advise on what is best for the credit union s data in the long term.
  • Contribute positively to team effort by consistently achieving established goals and expectations.
  • On call availability required for system support as needed (includes nights and weekends).

  • Frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl and climb.
WORKING CONDITIONS

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work both inside and outside in hot/cold, wet/humid, and dry conditions. The employee may also be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and moving mechanical parts. Work in confined spaces and on ladders/scaffolds is often required.

TRAVEL

Limited travel expected.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience of 8+ years.
  • Fluent computer skills in a Microsoft environment.
  • 2+ years of progressive work experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including the following experience:
    • Database theory and database design.
    • Failover clustering, high availability groups, SAN replication, and other high availability technologies.
    • Business intelligence reporting.
    • Microsoft Active Directory.
  • 2+ years of experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Microsoft SQL Server Certification.
