Let's do this. Let's change the world. We are actively seeking a highly qualified and motivated Data Scientist with a strong background in Computational Biology. The data scientist will join the Bioinformatics Technology team within Client's Center for Research Acceleration by Digital Innovation (CRADI). CRADI is a multi-disciplinary effort embedded within our drug discovery engine that continually uses advancement in digital technologies for disease modeling and digital modality engineering to accelerate our pipeline from target inception through drug development. Bioinformatics Technologies plays a pivotal role within CRADI's Computational Biology and Bioinformatics function, establishing an innovation engine for deploying and exploiting emerging digital technologies in the field of computational biology.

Biomarker-driven drug discovery emerges as a cornerstone of precision medicine, advancing the trajectory of therapeutic development and expediting the transition from bench to bedside.

In this role you will develop and implement computational models on multi-modal, multi-omics data to enable discovery of research biomarkers. This position will involve close collaborative relationships with scientists within pre-clinical research and clinical biomarkers as well as data scientists and engineering partners across Client R&D. An ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with colleagues from different fields will be essential.

The successful candidate will possess strong analytical aptitude, have a high degree of technical competency in computational sciences with a deep theoretical understanding of AI/Client and causal learning paired with an excellent understanding of molecular biology proven by a track record of innovative and collaborative research.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Develops computational integrative omics models for the inference of multi-dimensional immunological signatures that can serve as pharmacodynamic and predictive biomarkers;

Identifies opportunities and delivers appropriate quantitative methods, such as AI/Client and causal learning, to push the state of the art for omics-based research biomarker discovery;

Enables and executes in silico perturbation analyses to predict cellular response to drug or genetic perturbations;

Develops innovative cloud-native bioinformatics workflows for rapid and sustainable omics data processing, quality control, and multi-omics data integration for systemic insights generation of disease biology and therapeutic mode of action;

Works cross-functionally with stakeholders and domain experts to build a comprehensive catalog of gene signatures for all Client-relevant therapeutic areas;

Interprets and reports on multi-dimensional studies using bulk, single-cell, and spatial omics technologies that will accelerate the pace of research biomarker discovery and translation in early drug discovery across all TAs;

Collaborates with engineers, data scientists, and research scientists to develop innovative bioinformatics tools that facilitate data access, model utilization, and output interpretation

Experience: PhD in computer science, data science, computational biology or bioinformatics, preferably including industry experience OR Master's degree & 5+ years of directly related experience OR Bachelor's degree & 7+ years of directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Deep experience in and theoretical understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, deep learning, causal learning, and other relevant quantitative methods;

Knowledge in molecular biology;

Experience in integrative analysis of omics data, including single-cell and spatial sequencing data;

Experience with in silico modeling of cellular response to drug or genetic perturbations;

Fluency in scientific programming and tool development with R, Python, or equivalents;

Proven record of innovative thinking to propose and champion the development of Client algorithms and AI/Client models that generated interpretable and actionable results for biomarker discovery;

Familiarity with DevOps and software best practices (i.e., version control, continuous integration, test driven development);

Experience with cloud computing;

Creative, open-minded, and passionate about scientific research;

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;

Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment;

Strong interpersonal, collaborative, organizational, and presentation skills;

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal);

Understanding of molecular biology of inflammation is a plus
