Recently named a Forbes America's Best-In-State Employer 2022. What you'll do The Cytology Technical Specialist coordinates functions and activities of the assigned technical area. Reports results, develops and monitors quality control and test procedures, oversees proficiency testing, quality improvement and equipment and shares in the routine work of the assigned area. Meets regulatory requirements (NYSDOH, The Joint Commission) for the cytology area. Performs tests requiring special scientific skill. Correlates knowledge and understanding of theory and technical elements of testing to solve problems and answers questions effectively and efficiently. Works with other laboratory staff to provide a smooth operating and efficient Clinical Laboratory Department, to enhance the quality of patient care. The Technical Specialist also performs the duties of a cytotechnologist (see below). A Cytotechnologist performs cytological procedures and examination and any other such tests including maintaining equipment and records and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance, and which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, as determined by the Department. A Cytotechnologist provides prompt and accurate laboratory test results on cytological specimens to providers and internal departments. Prepares samples for examination and performs testing following established procedures. Correlates knowledge and understands theory and technical elements of testing to solve problems and answer questions effectively and efficiently. Oversees and coordinates technical function and activities of the cytology secti on while ensuringadherence to regulations and service to laboratory customers. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of daily work. Monitors work schedules and assigns personnel to assure critical areas are covered and work is completed accurately and meets established turnaround time standards. Monitors reagent and supply inventories for area of responsibility so as not to overstock or exhaust supplies. Initiates purchase requisitions as appropriate. Updates all procedures in a timely fashion and on an annual basis. Communicates updates and assures staff are following procedures. Assures regulatory standards within area of responsibility are met. Coordinates Proficiency Testing (PT) for the section Completes competency assessment of staff Oversees training of new staff and completion of competency assessments on an annual basis. Troubleshoots difficult or unusual instrument or procedural issues and calls for service within the terms of the service contract. Investigates new products or equipment. Completes written validation studies for new tests or instruments Reviews all maintenance, quality control and records to assure established procedures are followed and the proper functioning of laboratory equipment. Takes appropriate corrective action. Reviews instrument and equipment records. Identifies instrument problems and handles troubleshooting. Reviews QC slides on an ongoing basis and takes appropriate action on any QC not within established guidelines Actively participates in cytology quality assurance measures Provides suggestions for and actively participates in Performance Improvement monitors Performs tests requiring special scientific or complex skills and other duties as assigned within scope of practice. Participates in the daily work as necessary to assure competency is maintained and as workload demands. Performs the duties of a cytotechnologist as needed. Performs other duties as assigned, within the scope of their license. What we need from you Education: 4 year/Bachelor's degree and qualified as a Cytotechnologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations, required Experience: Minimum 4 years experience in standard cytology laboratory methodologies, required Licensure/Certificates: Licensure by NYS SED as a Cytotechnologist or licensure eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a cytotechnologist, required Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit. This position is eligible for a sign on bonus up to: USD $20,000.00 Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Pay Range Minimum: USD $37.49/Hr. Pay Range Maximum: USD $56.24/Hr.
