Job Responsibilities With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan & William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia, SC 29203. As the Building/Grounds Specialist I, working under supervision, you will perform extensive cleaning and professional custodial duties in the maintenance of the interior and exterior of DIS buildings and facilities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Cleans, sweeps, and mops floors inside and outside offices, stairways, corridors, and lobbies. Cleans, dusts, and polishes all types of surfaces and furniture in offices, and all other areas of the building. Empties trash receptables and disposes of trash. Strips, re-waxes, and buffs floors using heavy duty electric scrubbers and polisher; vacuums and shampoos all carpeted areas with vacuumequipment. Mix chemical solution to clean and disinfectant bathrooms, refills toilet paper, hand soap and paper towel dispensers. Stores equipment and supplies after usage. Agency Minimum Requirement: On job training, starting with simple tasks and moving on to more complex assignments that involves equipment like wet-dry vacuum, buffers and polishing machines. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. Additional Comments The selected applicant must have the physical ability to climb ladders, bend, walk, push, lift up to fifty (50) pounds and work with heavy equipment using repetitive movement.
