Overview Performs computed tomography procedures and related techniques. Administers x-radiation to produce diagnostic images for physician interpretation. May be required to alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, and take call. Depending on site assigned, may also be required to perform radiographer job duties. If assigned radiographer job duties, also performs radiographic, fluoroscopic, surgical and portable radiographic exams. Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist. Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessories to successfully perform procedures. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort; immobilizes patient as necessary. Practices aseptic technique as necessary, Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; starts and maintains intravenous access. Initiates basic life support action when necessary. Provides patient education. Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory and supplies for assigned area. Provides practical instruction for students and partners. Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers. Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients. Education and Experience Graduate of an accredited radiography program Radiographer experience preferred CT experience preferred Certification/Licensure ARRT Radiography registration required ARRT Computed Tomography registration required (or must be obtained within two years of hire) IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days of hire Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Function of the position with or without accommodations.
