COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHYCT TECHNOLOGISTOPENING FOR BROOKE ARMY MEDICAL CENTER (BAMC)

Brooke Army Medical Center is the United States Army's premier medical institution. Located on Fort Sam Houston, BAMC, a 425-bed Academic Medical Center, is the Department of Defense's largest facility and only Level 1 Trauma Center.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE CT TECHNOLOGIST:

Graduate from an accredited program or military equivalent program
Maintain a current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification as CT Technologist.
Minimum of one (1) year experience within the last five (5) years providing services as a certified CT Technologist.
Maintain a current Medical Radiologic Technologist license. (Canbe acquired after start date with proof of current application)
Must be a US citizen for access to government computers.
BLS from AHA or ARC

DUTIES OF THE CT TECHNOLOGIST:

Independently performs standard and complex examinations such as virtual colonoscopy, multi-phase exams of the liver, pancreas, kidneys, coronary and/or cardiac angiograms, calcium scores, pre-cardiac ablations, cystograms, and brain perfusions.
Initializes scans, sets parameters, and performs a wide variety of axial computerized tomographic examinations to patients using advanced multi-detector CT technology in direct support of a level one (1) trauma center.
Possesses knowledge of post-processing measures on an independent workstation, such as 3D rendering/ mapping, Multi-Planar Reconstructions/Reformations (MPR), Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP), and calcium score analyses of the coronary arteries.
Possesses knowledge of current imaging techniques and stays abreast of any new developments within the field of study.
Assists Radiologists and physicians in performing a wide variety of standard and complex CT examinations including but not limited to neurologic, thoracic, abdominal, angiographic, biopsies, and drainages.
Confers with Radiologists and physicians to establish requirements of nonstandard examinations and determines technical factors such as positioning, number, and thickness cut of scans, etc., to satisfy examination requirements.
Coordinates work with additional technologists when procedures require assistance.
Receives, reviews, screens, and schedules patients for examinations and provides preparation instructions, including premedication if necessary.
Interprets lab results, evaluates Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR), and determines risk for developing Contrast Induced Nephropathy (CIN) and/or renal failure.
Evaluates the nature of any critical/emergency examinations and rearranges patient priorities to accommodate them.
Obtains and annotates pertinent medical records/history from patients and staff, to determine most adequate means/equipment needed for advantageous examinations.
Receives patients and explains the risks, benefits, procedures, and methods of the examination to minimize patient fears.
Ensures that examination preparations are accurately followed, positions patients, and makes exposures necessary to accomplish the examinations requested.
Secures venous access and expertly monitors patient s condition during examinations for signs of infiltration or anaphylactic/allergic reactions to contrast and, if necessary, renders emergency
aid while following proper emergency code procedures.
Ensures patient records are in both the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and maintains a permanent record of accomplished scans in a tape library.
Notifies Radiologists and physicians of the results of examinations to provide preliminary diagnostic evaluations and ide tifies any significant findings that may require immediate attention and/or visualization.

SCHEDULE:
Full-time , 40 hours per week with the following shifts:

MONDAY - FRIDAY
7: 00 AM and 3: 30 PM
SUNDAY - THURSDAY
3: 00 PM and 11: 30 PM
11: 00 PM and 7: 30 AM
FRIDAY - SATURDAY
7: 00 AM and 7: 30 PM
7: 00 PM and 7: 30 AM
11: 00 AM and 11: 30 PM

Employees may work a rotating schedule at times.

Saturday Sunday:
Sunday Monday:
TheCT TECHNOLOGISTshall report to the facility within 45 minutes.

Services are required on Federal holidays as needed.
All employees spend the first six to eight weeks on dayshift for training.
