As a self-directed employee, perform assigned operating, regulating and adjusting duties, as well as maintenance, electrical, and instrument and controls work on Combined Cycle electric generating units, heat recovery steam generators and steam generating units, auxiliaries and miscellaneous station equipment, perform assigned switching operations on station or substation equipment. Complete all required training. Oversee and direct the activities of other employees, train and instruct assigned employees, and perform other related work. Check with the technician being relieved for special orders and for station and area operating conditions, review logs and make a visual inspection of duty area equipment. Check and monitor the central control room continually during shift for proper and economical operation of equipment in accordance with prescribed standards, react to abnormal conditions and take the appropriate corrective measures within his control. Perform in connection with assigned tasks, the necessary operating, regulating and adjusting to maintain proper output of combustion turbines, proper control of water flows, pressures, temperatures, and fuel consumption, including the operation or check of operation of feed water pumps, fans, ignition systems, and other related auxiliary and accessory equipment to insure maximum efficiency and correct output of the units. Perform in connection with assigned tasks the necessary operating, regulating and adjusting to maintain proper operation of combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generator steam turbines, generators and their related auxiliary and accessory equipment, including proper control of temperatures, pressures, lubrication, gland seals, cooling water, service water, heaters and hydrogen equipment. Perform in connection with assigned tasks the necessary operating, regulating and adjusting to maintain desired output of electric generators, transformers, busses, transmission lines, circuit breakers and associated equipment, including such operations as synchronizing, switching and the replacing of fuses. Engage in, as required, the mechanical and electrical switching operations necessary to remove station or substation mechanical and electrical equipment from service and return it to service, including the preparing, giving or receiving clearance, placing or removing of hold cards in accordance with established procedures. Operate telephone for system and station calls and follow through to satisfactory completion, receive dispatching orders, keep management informed of station and system conditions and operate switches and controls to meet system requirements. Assist in, or perform as directed, the various duties connected with the supervisory control operation of the substation, such as operating the controls for the switching of feeders, assembling data, at times receiving and directing servicemen and switchmen in switching operations involved on the feeders and substation equipment. Observe instrument indications and assemble and record, as required, electrical, steam, water, air, gas, and oil data and readings, change, date, and sign charts and observe correct operation or recording instruments, assist in keeping or maintaining, chronological logs containing pertinent operating information and prepare specified related reports and records. Assist in or perform as directed, the handling of emergency or abnormal operations necessary for maintaining in service or returning to service, combustion turbines, transformers and related auxiliary or accessory equipment. Analyze data for changing conditions, recommend and implement solutions to resolve the root cause of problems. Maintain work equipment and area in a clean, orderly condition, continuously observe Company safety rules and practices, check condition of safety equipment, attend and participate in scheduled training, safety and fire fighting meetings, participate in artificial respiration practice as required, and be thoroughly familiar with the safety rules and established Company safety policies, hold card procedures, fire fighting procedures, and other related procedures as prescribed by the Company. Direct and train assigned employees; oversee and direct the activities of other employees; and perform other similar or less skilled work. Fully functional with the Work Management System, creating and closing out of work orders including barrier and completion remarks, creating and improving equipment listings, identifying and ordering parts, PMs, job plans and Job Hazard analysis tasks as assigned. Research and assist in ordering of replacement or stock parts. Perform water chemistry testing on all site systems. Operate and regenerate Demineralizer systems, pretreatment, RO and post treatment systems and associated equipment. Transport and handle hazardous materials. Operate and maintain the site in a safe and environmentally conscience manner. Job Qualifications Must meet the Company's General Qualifications as set forth in the Foreword to the Job Manual. Graduation from high school or applicable equivalent in either job training or study, and in addition, the completion of eighteen (18) months of technical education, or applicable equivalent, in combustion turbine, electric engineering, or generating station operation. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be willing to travel. This position has a safe working weight restriction of 275 lbs. as an essential function of the job. Preferred Qualifications 2-year Associates Degree related to operating or maintaining Mechanical/Electrical equipment. Trade School certifications in relation to operating or maintaining Mechanical/Electrical equipment. Military Background with turbine or generator experience. Working Conditions Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a company facility Rotating 24/7 schedule This position will require overtime and short notice requests to work This position is in a power plant/industrial environment, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year that includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity. Requires climbing ladders and stairs, lifting heavy loads up to 100 pounds, entering vessels or equipment with limited access, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, squatting, pulling, pushing, working in hard to reach and high places, standing for long periods of time, being exposed to all types of weather conditions, and working around machinery and pinch points.
