Overview of the Cost Accountant role:
- Maintain and update accounting records and files.
- Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger (e.g., by assets, liabilities, and expenses).
- Reconcile bank statements.
- Conduct month-end and year-end closures.
- Prepare documents for audits.
- Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Report to the Accounting Manager and work to improve financial processes.
- Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in carrying out responsibilities.
- Analyze budgets and create expense reports.
- Examine tax policies and handle tax payments and returns.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Conduct analysis on costing data and present potential cost-saving opportunities to management.
- Apply principles of cost accounting to conduct in-depth studies, providing detailed financial information beyond what general accounting systems offer.
- Maintain a weekly product cost roll-up for reporting product gross margins.
- Analyze cost models and trends to identify potential cost savings.
- Assist cost accountants with their weekly/monthly reporting responsibilities.
- Create meaningful inventory reports with business SMEs, encompassing cycle count adjustments, inventory by location and species, etc.
- Participate in other projects as needed, supporting cost and financial-related matters.
Preferred Qualifications for Senior Cost Accountant:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or finance
- 5+ years cost in cost accounting/cost analysis
- SAP software experience is a plus
