Must have NP experience in a primary care or hospital setting
seClienthing for a family or adult-gerontology nurse practitioner licensed to work in Ohio with at least one year of working NP experience in primary care to provide on-site services on a full-time basis to the male population at this correctional facility. Schedule is weekdays only (no evenings, weekends, or holidays) and shift start/end times have some flexibility based on needs of facility. An on-site interview will be required. Assignment is projected to last approximately 3 months but may be extended based on continued need and mutual good fit.

Nurse Practitioner Duties
  • Monitors progress of and intervenes in the course of chronic illnesses, using ODRC policies and protocols for guidance
  • Inoculates or vaccinates against communicable diseases & prescribes medications or administers treatment of acute and chronically ill patients & performs minor surgery as training & competency allows
  • Performs routine physical exams of patients to determine control or status of chronic conditions & diagnoses new conditions
  • Evaluates patients for the necessity of specialty referral consultations inside or outside the institution & reviews said consult reports for the recommendations, approving or disapproving accordingly
  • Orders & reviews the results of laboratory, x-ray, & other diagnostic testing as appropriate
  • With the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), facilitates the completion of medical reclassification & requests for non-formulary medications as necessary
  • Performs routine & emergency medical care of patients as scheduled
  • Examines, diagnoses & treats patients within scope of practice, as identified by the State of Ohio Nursing Board, as applicable
  • Conducts rounds on infirmary patients as deemed appropriate by the CMO
  • Writes up medical information gathered during patient interviews according to ODRC Office of Correctional Healthcare guidelines, policies, protocols & related American Correctional Association standards currently in practice, documenting all assessments & diagnostic impressions, as well as any other treatment plans & follow-up parameters
  • Cooperates with CMO medical quality oversight & accept suggestions, redirection, and guidance
