Job Location: Central Office, 1617 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, MO

This position is eligible for a temporary emergency operations adjustment of $3 to $6 per hour, depending on the area of operation, when handling winter/emergency operations activities.

The core drill operator operates a drill power control center and leads a drilling crew responsible for obtaining material samples and data for subsurface investigations. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.

Leads crews in drilling activities necessary to obtain material samples and data for subsurface investigations.
Directs the selection, set up, and dismantling of drilling location.
Operates power control center from drilling station to raise and lower mast, install pipe, casing, core barrels and drill rods, govern speed of rotation, bit penetration rate, and drilling fluid pressure.
Supervises removal, packing, and identification of cores, and creates a geological logging of boring holes.
Maintains inventory, equipment, and vehicle records.
High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate EI or Non-Excepted Interstate NI ). Must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate EI or Non-Excepted Interstate NI ) within 60 days after being hired into this position.
Five years of experience in exploration drilling.
Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.

Special Working Conditions:

Waiver of minimum requirements may be considered.
Job requires continuous, statewide, overnight travel.
Job requires heavy physical exertion and effort.
Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Department of Natural Resources Certification for monitoring well installations.
