Job Location: Central Office, 1617 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, MO

This position may be filled at one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, with the intermediate starting salary of $46,281.60, and a senior starting salary of $49,984.08.

This position is eligible for a temporary emergency operations adjustment of $3 to $6 per hour, depending on the area of operation, when handling winter/emergency operations activities.

The core drill assistant drives water and supply trucks to work sites, assists in setting up and preparing drilling equipment to obtain material samples and data for subsurface investigations, and performs a variety of functions to assist the core drill team during operations; or mobilizes an auger and/or pavement drill to obtain information for soil surveys. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

Maintains and services tools and equipment.
Transports equipment and supplies throughout the state to drilling location.
Collects soil and rock samples in coordination with geotechnical staff.
Mobilizes an auger and/or pavement drill to different locations to obtain soil and/or pavement samples for further testing.
Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate EI or Non-Excepted Interstate NI ). A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver's license (CDL) exam is required prior to hire date. Must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate EI or Non-Excepted Interstate NI ) within 60 days after being hired into this position.
Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.

Special Working Conditions:

Requires travel within the state of Missouri Monday through Thursday, leaving Jefferson City Monday morning and returning Thursday (four 10-hour days).
Must be capable of working individually in all districts in the state of Missouri.
Lodging provided and meals consumed while traveling are reimbursable.
Job requires heavy physical exertion and effort.
Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment, including carrying out duties in heavy traffic areas, on barges in bodies of water, on or near heavy equipment or machinery, and on steep slopes and muddy ground.
Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic electrical and welding knowledge.
Ability to learn and understand various geology within the state.
