Position Information

The School of Education (SOE) at the University of California Riverside (UCR) is committed to its mission to advance equitable educational systems and practices which are driven by core values of equity, evidence, excellence, community, critical thinking, and compassion. Withing this context, the Coordinator of Middle School Initiatives (incumbent) will serve as a seasoned professional who is aligned with the mission of UCR's School of Education, committed to advancing educational equity and academic success of students served by the middle school initiative. The incumbent should have an assets-based lens, and be knowledgeable of the communities served in the middle school initiative. The Coordinator of Middle School Initiatives will serve as the primary point of contact for all School of Education middle school program initiatives inclusive of the STEAM Academy offered each summer. Under direct supervision of the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and in collaboration with the Community Engaged Learning Coordinator, the incumbent develops programming to effectively provide opportunity for middle school aged children in the Riverside and San Bernardino counties as guided by the school's equity-focused strategic plan. The incumbent demonstrates racial literacies and capacity for promoting racial and economically-diverse populations on opportunities for higher education beyond K-12. The incumbent will help to administer any SOE higher education programming to support equity and justice-based outreach to students and specifically traditionally-underserved populations, marketing, data analytics, and program evaluation. The incumbent is expected to conduct modest travel domestically to foster institutional relationships for outreach efforts for SOE undergraduate and graduate programs.

The full salary range for the Coordinator of Middle School Initiatives is $54,200 - $93,200 annually. The expected pay scale for this position is up to $83,450 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

This position is eligible for hybrid work.



Education

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
  • Master's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. (Preferred)


Experience Requirements
  • 4 - 7 years of related experience. (Required)


Minimum Requirements

Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives. Knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation urban youth. Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies. Significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers. Strong knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements. Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status. Ability to establish and maintains cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts. Strong knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.



Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with ethnic studies background/coursework are preferred. Strong racial literacies and understanding of how educational structures impact outcomes, preferred.
