Job Summary

The Cook/Food Service Aide is responsible for preparing and/or serving food for residents, tenants, patients, guests, and employees.

This position will be scheduled varied shifts from 5:30am - 2:00pm (AM Cook or Aide), 10:00am - 6:30pm (PM Cook), and 3:45pm - 8:00 pm (PM Aide), some weekends, and rotating holidays.

This is a benefit eligible position.

  • Set up the kitchen, which includes filling the steam table and heated transporting carts.
  • Food preparation and making food, which includes getting the food and cooking the food.
  • Manage the production of a meal (supervision of fellow employees) so that the meal is flavorful, attractive, therapeutically correct, and served in a timely manner.
  • Serve food, which includes getting the plates and steam table, dishing up the food, serving food at the hospital, assisted living and serving food at the nursing home.
  • Serve meals at the Care Center, which includes: preparing carts, serving residents, making coffee, and cleaning off the carts.
  • Follow food production, sanitation, and safety guidelines to meet the requirements of regulating agencies and policies.
  • Clean the kitchen, which includes cleaning the counters and steam tables, putting food away, washing dishes, putting dishes away and bring garbage and recyclables to their designated locations.
  • Restock the kitchen, which includes restocking the freezer and dry items, pulling foods needed for week's menus.
  • Provide documentation such as required temperature records, meal records, resident intake, and filling out daily meal counts.
  • Communicate with other departments in implementing the nutritional care of a resident.
  • Will attend 80% of departmental, quarterly and other required meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English to complete work efficiently, effectively, and courteously with staff, residents, and visitors.
Education/Experience/Licensure
  • High school graduate or GED preferred.
  • Experience in food production and have Food Safety Manager Training certificate or be willing to take the class.

  • Work in an environment that may expose an individual to communicable disease.
  • Prolonged periods standing, reaching, and bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
