Controller
About the Company and Opportunity:
- CFS is working with a local employer in the construction space seeking a Controller for their accounting department.
- The Controller reports to the Director of Finance and oversees a team of 6.
Overview of the Controller role:
- Oversee the smooth operation of the Accounting Department, ensuring quality control.
- Manage daily check deposits and disbursement schedules.
- Act as a check signer, reviewing expenses and approvals for accuracy.
- Handle profit sharing, 401k calculations, and remittance.
- Review credit applications, joint check agreements, and processed invoices.
- Support the processing and approval of invoices with Project Managers.
- Provide support for weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
- Maintain vacation and sick leave accrual calculations and schedules.
- Manage timecard access and security.
- Review and approve release and payment of project retentions.
- Administer company credit cards, issuing new cards and resolving issues.
- Submit weekly retirement withholdings and prepare the annual profit-sharing census.
- Reconcile monthly bank accounts.
- Review monthly billings and sign lien waivers.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Track company cash positions, payments, and insurance policies.
- Maintain and update fixed rate tables annually.
Preferred Qualifications for the Controller:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred. CPA is a plus.
- 8+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Public accounting experience included preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Accounting experience in construction or similar industry preferred.
- Proficient with Timberline software is a plus.
