Job Details

We are looking for an ambitious Construction Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate must be available in the South Bend, Indiana area and must have at least 2 years (Required) experience in the construction industry.

MUST BE:
  • Able to read and understand construction contract documents
  • Understand building design and construction terms.
  • Strong organization skills, good communication and follow up skills, detail orientated, and be proficient in email management
  • Ability to quickly learn and become efficient in the use of iSqFT, E-Take-Off, Sage Estimating
  • Able to handle a fast-paced environment and is responsive to short duration deadlines
  • Form relationships with key consultants such as interior designers, Civil Engineers, MEP engineers, architects, and Structural Engineers and learn their strengths and weaknesses as partners
  • Fostering a trusting relationship with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Visit project sites in order to learn and understand the scope of the projects and means/methods for all trades.
  • Ability to work closely with Sr. Estimator and take guidance/directions
  • Understand BIM (building information model) and how it is used for our company
  • Ability to learn names and become familiar with key people for subcontractors and suppliers we are partner with on a consistent basis
  • Build relationships with specialty contractors for soil boring, material testing, utility locates, etc.
  • Learn SOPs (standard operating procedures) for the estimating department
  • Strong communication skills and collaborate with internal team
  • Ability to work closely with project management and estimating team
  • Form relationships of the Foreman and Superintendents running the work in the field

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review self performance items with Chief Estimator such as demolition, concrete, carpentry, and building specialty items to confirm proper production rates and unit costs suitable for each specific projects
  • Navigate through a set of project drawings and specification and understand where to look for key information
  • Develop a good understand of the development of project drawings and specifications
  • Enter relevant information into Sage Estimating and be able to properly make changes to Sage cost estimate and manipulate data as needed to each specific project
  • Perform proper quantity take-off's of materials in a manner that is conducive to how the Timberline Estimating Software is set up
  • Understand the trade contractor's typical scopes of work
  • Generate different types of Timberline reports to meet the needs of person requesting information for proposals
  • Develop bid sheets including detailed scope requirements
  • Develop bid room requirements for bid such as bid sheets, spec section on market board, bid day recap excel sheet, late changes, hand check of bid amount, etc.
  • Leadership and presentation skills to lead pre-construction teams on specific projects.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be in South Bend, Indiana area
  • Must have 2+ years experience in the construction industry
  • Tech savvy and strong knowledge of internet usage
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • General understanding of scheduling software and generating simple, generalized project schedules (Such as PrimaVera or Microsoft Project)
  • 3 years of construction estimating experience
  • A Bachelor degree (construction related preferred)

PREFERRED, but not required, experience in:
Sage 300 CRE (Timberline)
On-Screen Take-Off
