Title: Construction Estimator

Location: Chicago, IL (Remote / Hybrid available)

Duration: Permanent Hire

Salary: 80k - 110k (commensurate with experience)

The Estimator will interface with clients and their representatives to ensure that technical specifications and designs are feasible and consistent with industry standards.

Essential Functions of the Position:

Estimators are responsible for developing accurate and complete job estimates. The Estimator must be familiar with project labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, written specifications, and related documents.

Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings to fully understand the project scope. Conduct review and take-off of blueprints. Solicit bids from subcontractors.

Evaluate subcontractor bids to bid documents and plans to ensure that the full scope of work was considered. Calculate costs of subcontract labor, general conditions, and materials. Collaborates with the client to help them achieve their project cost budget through consideration of plan details, alternate material/finishes, and building methods.

Participate in company meetings and works closely with team to achieve goals of the company. Work closely with CAD drafters. Provide job packets to foremen/supervisor to assist with job preparation for safety, HazCom, specifications and labor expectations. Develop and maintain strategic relationships.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5+ years of experience in (commercial preferred) estimating. Strong communication and organizational skills. Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or equivalent combination of education/experience. Experience in Conceptual, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction document budgets and estimates. Estimating software knowledge preferred (EDGE desired). Spanish speaking a plus. Must have a car to get to jobsites.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions and correspondence using proper grammar. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, general contractors, architects or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

High skill level in Edge Estimating Software. Skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn new graphic software to compliment the presentation of new SolidWorks designs. Field verify as necessary. Provide technical support throughout design and installation phases.
