Job Description Computer Aided Design Coordinator T he GBS Group, an engineering and technical consulting firm, is seeking a Computer Aided Design Coordinator at our Virginia Beach, VA office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district. Roles and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Familiar with Industry Standards as they relate to developing Technical Drawings in 2d and 3D. Provide Quality Control for other Drafters by maintaining drafting practices that support the general workflow.
Coordinate workflow parameters of estimating and priority scheduling of incoming tasks and reporting progress and issues with the Project Managers.
Develop engineering drawings, checking dimensions of units, connections to be used, relation of one component to another, and relation of various materials to the complete structure or project.
Provide Guidance, Technical review and redline/markups of engineering drawings and designs.
Perform drawing updates in AutoCAD 3D and Inventor as needed to support engineering teams to create new, revise existing drawings or convert drawings.
Track and manage incorporation of drawing technical and administrative comments from multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Perform surveys, ship checks, and analyze as-built drawings, redline mark ups and other correspondence to develop or revise drawings for various engineering disciplines.
Track detailed comments and their resolution across multiple vessel classes to ensure all end products are consistent and in accordance with governing documents and specifications.
Assist the client to deliver a higher level of standardization and consistency through the development and introduction of drawing processes, quality checks, engineering practices, and a continuous improvement philosophy.
Prepare detailed technical reports to support initiatives and their implementation. Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: Minimum 5 years' experience in design and technical drafting. Associates Degree or applicable training certifications.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
U. S. citizenship. Desired characteristics: Knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
Proficient with AutoCAD or Inventor or other 3D modeling software.
Familiar with DOD - STD-100/ASME Y14 series drawing standards.
Strong interpersonal, attention to quality, computing, and presentation skills.
Strong work ethic, dedication, organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Must work well in a team dynamic.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
May occasionally be required to work evenings/nights.
