The Role: Moderna's Immune Therapeutics Discovery (ITD) department is seeking a talented and motivated Co-op to join our team in support of developing new mRNA-based therapies. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop first-in-class therapeutics for patients in need, with lots of room for learning and growth. The Co-op will work on an individual project that is important to Moderna's Immune Therapeutics Discovery mission with support from an experienced mentor who will provide guidance on projects and career. He/she will support exploratory and early development programs against a variety of therapeutic targets, using in vitro and ex vivo analytical methods to evaluate immune modulation. Applicants should be great team members, excellent communicators, with solid organizational skills. Our ideal candidate will be highly motivated and adaptable with a strong desire to contribute tin the laboratory. Our summer/fall co-op program is from July 15- Dec 13, 2024. All applicants must be available for the entire duration of the program, on-site, 40hrs/week. Here's What You'll Do: Help develop, optimize and validate cell-based assays to evaluate various mRNA therapeutics Collaborate with internal teams on initial testing of mRNAs. Collect, archive, organize and analyze samples, including those from in vivo studies Deliver reproducible and impactful results that meet deadlines Execute and troubleshoot standard protocols, adapt new protocols into practice independently, and query literature to incorporate additional assays as needed Independently execute experiments, faithfully documenting scientific work Analyze, interpret and present data Contribute to reports and presentations Here's What You'll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications): Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or other related Life Science field Fundamental knowledge and experience with wet lab techniques, including but not limited to tissue and cell culture Candidates with strong knowledge/ experience in at least one of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: Cell-based assays (e.g. transfection, transduction, viability, etc.) Flow cytometry Protein quantification techniques (e.g. Western, ELISA, MSD, Mass Spectrometry, Luminex-based assays) RNA Purification, qPCR, other Molecular Biology techniques Capability to anticipate and recognize potential issues within experimental designs and effectively communicate alternatives Prior co-op or internship experience is preferred Candidate will embrace our core values.
