Responsibilities The Mayo Clinic Department of Oncology in Rochester, Minnesota seeks a board-certified medical oncologist (MD or MD/PhD) who possesses clinical experience, a strong track record of securing and maintaining NCI/federal funding (R01 or equivalent grants), and a strong publication record. A proven record of collaborative science endeavors is also desired. This institutionally funded physician-scientist position will provide an extensive amount of protected time for research. The ideal candidate will be a clinically astute physician who leads an independent basic and/or translational research program designed to impact unmet needs of cancer patients. Areas of ongoing emphasis with the Department of Oncology and Cancer Center include novel therapeutics, immunotherapy, adoptive cellular therapies, cancer stem cell biology, and gene and viral therapy. The Mayo Clinic Department of Oncology in Rochester, MN, includes both clinicians and basic scientists extensively involved in translational science. Mayo Clinic is an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center consisting of 383 members with research ongoing within 4 clinical, 4 basic and 1 population science Programs, and is one of the leading cancer care providers in the United States. It is well known for extensive research in preclinical and clinical drug development, applied basic science research, translational research, which includes five different NCI SPORE programs, as well as cancer epidemiology and health outcomes research. Mayo Clinic is an integrated, multidisciplinary academic medical center with comprehensive programs in medical education and research that span three group practice sites. We support a vibrant research enterprise, with programs in basic, translational, clinical and population sciences. In 2020, the institution received nearly $930 million in research funding, including nearly 600 million in extramural research awards.
