Clinical Expertise that Counts.

At our institution, we are looking for professionals who:

Collaborate for Progress: Work hand-in-hand with our administration and school staff to enforce policies on substance use and related issues.

Manage Referrals with Care: Guide students who have violated our school's drug and alcohol policy or those seeking help for substance use problems.

Facilitate Re-entry: Lead school re-entry meetings with students and parents/guardians to chart the path forward.

Assess and Refer: Conduct initial substance abuse assessments and make referrals to treatment facilities when needed.

Offer Support: Provide short-term individual and/or group counseling for students in need.

Coordinate Care: Offer intervention, recommend referrals, and provide follow-up support for students in outpatient or residential programs.

Build Collaborative Aftercare Plans: Collaborate with treatment facilities, counselors, parents/guardians, and students to develop and implement aftercare plans.

Educate and Prevent: Deliver substance abuse prevention programs to students and organize informative sessions for faculty and staff.

Manage Cases with Care: Offer case management services as needed.

Engage Parents/Guardians: Plan and execute parent/guardian education programs on substance awareness and related topics, in cooperation with district personnel and community agencies.

Prioritize Confidentiality: Maintain confidential records in accordance with federal and state law and Board policy. Document Effectively: Complete documentation following agency and program guidelines.

Be a Valuable Resource: Serve as a resource for district personnel on substance awareness and abuse matters.

Connect with the Community: Attend local committee meetings, such as Essex County ADAPT Coalition and CIACC.

Shape Policies: Assist in developing and reviewing policies and procedures related to substance use and abuse, and recommend improvements to the administration.

Handle Crisis Situations: Demonstrate the ability to employ appropriate interventions in both crisis and non-crisis situations.

️ Foster Empathy: Create a non-judgmental and empathetic environment, welcoming a range of feelings and personal expressions.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, you should have:

A Master's Degree in Social Work or an equivalent field.

State licensure/certification specific to your degree, such as LSW or LPC.

Experience in mental health and substance use, especially with diverse populations in an urban setting.

Preferred: LCADC Certification

Knowledge and Skills:

You should also possess:

Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and various treatment modalities, including group, family, and individual treatment.

Awareness of community resources, social services, and mental health systems.

Proficiency in appropriate clinical interventions for crisis and non-crisis situations.

Understanding of treatment interventions for adolescents with mental health concerns, co-occurring diagnoses, and trauma.

The ability to conduct biopsychosocial assessments and make differential diagnoses.

️ The skill to engage adolescents effectively in individual and group counseling.

The capability to mobilize individual strengths and connect clients to concrete services.

The aptitude to work with challenging or resistant clients.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

The ability to establish a warm, collaborative, non-judgmental therapeutic atmosphere.

Setting appropriate boundaries and limits with clients.

A commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
