The Clinical Therapist, EPS provides clinically competent assessment to determine appropriate level of care in the least restrictive environment which may include psychiatric assessment, safety planning and collaboration with members of the Behavioral Health clinical team to determine case disposition in an accurate and timely procedure within program policies and procedures.


A day in the life of a Clinical Therapist, EPS at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:


1. Provides clinically competent psychiatric assessment to determine appropriate level of care in the least restrictive environment.
2. Provides clinically competent case management services to patients as needed. Accurately and timely assesses readiness for discharge or transfer. Makes appropriate judgments, utilizing available resources in a collaborative approach, demonstrates competence per department requirements.
3. Maintains awareness of the sources of reimbursements for the service and follows through to ensure that all requirements are met.
4. Documentation:
a. Initial Assessment: Initial assessment is completed in an accurate and timely procedure within program policies and procedures.
b. Collateral Contacts: Collateral contacts are completed in an accurate and timely procedure within program policies and procedures.
c. Progress notes are completed in an accurate and timely procedure within program policies and procedures.
d. Psychiatric Consultation: Consultation is completed in an accurate and timely procedure within program policies and procedures.
e. Insurance Pre-certification: Confirmation and pre-certification of insurance is completed in an accurate and timely procedure within program policies and procedures.
f. Safety Planning: When applicable, safety plan is completed in an accurate and timely procedure within program policies and procedures.
g. Discharge/Transfer: Discharge/Transfer plan is completed in an accurate and timely procedure within program policies and procedures.
5. Maintains and provides knowledge of current issues in the field. Shares information from conferences, articles, training with others. Demonstrates a clear understanding of performance improvement activities within the department. Actively participates in the Performance Improvement process.
6. Demonstrates clinical competency in the provision of Behavioral Health Services in accordance with New Jersey's state licensure requirements.
7. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
8. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Master's degree in Counseling or equivalent.


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Competent in Electronic Medical Record documentation systems.


Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. LAC - Licensed Associate Counselor, or LPC - Licensed Professional Counselor, or LSW - Licensed Social Worker, or LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or LMFT - Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
2. CPR certification completion required upon hire.
3. CPI certification completion required upon hire.
