The McLean Hospital Division of Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction is a highly productive clinical research environment that has led and participated in landmark studies in the field. Under the direction of Roger Weiss, M.D., a PI of the New England Consortium Node of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network (CTN), we are currently leading a major multi-site CTN trial focused on treatment of opioid use disorder. We are looking for a Research Assistant to work on this and other projects in the Division of Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction at McLean Hospital.

Working under the supervision of a Principal Investigator and following established policies and procedures, the Research Assistant may be responsible for the following activities: recruiting and evaluating patients for studies; collecting and organizing patient data, including via patient interviews; scheduling patients for study visits; performing clinical tests such as taking vital signs, urine screens, etc; maintaining and updating data generated by the study, and assistance with preparing scientific presentations and writing papers for publication.
  • Collects and organizes patient data
  • Maintains records and databases
  • Uses software programs to generate graphs and reports
  • Recruiting patients for clinical trials, conducts phone interviews and schedules patients for visits.
  • Obtains patient study data from medical records, physicians, etc.
  • Conducts library searches
  • Performs administrative support duties as required
  • Verifies accuracy of study forms
  • Updates study forms per protocol
  • Prepares data for analysis and data entry
  • Assists with formal audits of data
  • Documents patient visits and procedures
  • Assists with regulatory binders and QA/QC procedures.
  • Assists with interviewing study subjects
  • Administers and scores questionnaires
  • Provides basic explanation of study and in some cases obtains informed consent from subjects
  • Performs study procedures such as phlebotomy
  • Assists with study regulatory submissions
  • Writes consent forms
  • Verifies subject inclusion/exclusion criteria
  • Assists with determining suitability of study subjects
  • Maintains research data, patient files, regulatory binders and study databases
  • Performs data analysis and QA/QC data checks
  • Organizes and interprets data
  • Has input into recruitment strategies
  • Acts as study resource for patient and family
  • Monitors and evaluates lab and procedure data
  • Administers/scores/evaluates study questionnaires
  • May contribute to protocol recommendations
  • Assists with preparation for annual review
  • Assists PI to prepare complete study reports & presentations


Qualifications
  • Education; Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: Minimum 1-year related post bachelor's degree experience required
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
1. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.
2. Good oral and written communication skills.
3. Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
4. Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
5. Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
6. Careful attention to detail.
7. Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for participants' rights and individual needs.

All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
