The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise in a focus area, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership. The CNS coordinates and guides clinical activities/projects of nurses within a practice area. The CNS is accountable for collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies. The CNS is responsible for maintaining current professional knowledge and competencies and contributing to the advancement of the practice of nursing at the unit/system, local, state and/or national and international level. What you wil Do: Functions as an expert clinician in a specialty or subspecialty of nursing practice (i.e. acute care, geriatrics, critical care, or cardiology). Collaborates with Nursing Leadership and Clinical Education Specialists to develop patient & population-based programs of care. Partners with Clinical Education Specialists to identify learning needs of frontline staff and develop educational plans to improve patient care metrics. Mentors frontline staff, which may include flexible work hours to ensure meeting the needs of variable nursing shifts. Provides clinical expertise to disseminate research and evidence at the unit, service line, and organizational level to maximize patient care outcomes and safety. Identifies the need for new standards, policies, guidelines and procedures within the organization and across systems. Utilizes data and performance metrics to improve patient care outcomes and quality of care. Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate or Master's degree in Nursing- CNS or CNL required. Certification as a CNS required. Certification in area of specialty preferred. Current State of Iowa licensed registered nurse. Minimum five years acute care clinical nursing experience.
