Key Responsibilities Works under the direction of the Director of Education and the Chief Nursing Officer to provide continuing clinical education to staff. Strives to provide excellent service with compassion, tact, cheerfulness, accuracy, patience, flexibility in scheduling, calmness in emergency, and ability to work well with all team members. Receives and applies feedback from peers and superiors. Assists with orientation and training of staff as requested. Must be able to perform, and educate to, all the key responsibilities listed in the Registered Nurse position description, for the areas assigned. Standard 1. SAFE PRACTICE AND ENVIRONMENT: Facilitates staff in-patient education endeavors. Integrates and reinforces key aspects of patient safety into orientation programs, education programs, and work environment. Facilitates and promotes culturally sensitive patient education information. Assists in coordinating the annual KHI Safety Fair. Maintains clinical competence in area of specialty. Participates in the development and implementation of education information and materials for discharge planning and for teaching healthcare consumers. Standard 3. PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT: Demonstrates active participation in the professional development of nursing staff through competency management. Assesses educational needs and facilitates educational sessions/programs for nursing staff related to: Clinical practice New products/equipment National patient safety goals/core measures. Assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of new strategies to improve the delivery of nursing care. Participates in quality improvement activities specific to assigned clinical areas as requested. Participates as an active memberon one of the Nursing Shared Leadership Councils. Standard 4. HUMANRESOURCES MANAGEMENT: Implements and facilitates clinical based orientation for new nursing staff for assigned areas. Collaborates in the ongoing evaluation of nursing orientation curriculum and content. Assists in identifying educational needs of all nursingstaff in assigned areas. Initiates and coordinates clinically based hospital education specific to assigned areas. Conducts educational programs to meetcompetency assessment requirements in conformance with departmental objectives and regulatory standards. Standard 5. INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: Exercises confidentiality documentation regarding patients, staff, and personnel. Provides on-going education of clinical documentation processes. Utilizes current, appropriate technology as a tool to supportstaff education. Selects, modifies, and presents information that is basedon the learner's ability, so it is easily understood by the learner. Standard 6. PROVISION OF CARE- CLINICAL PRACTICE Ensures educational activities are congruent with KHI'smission, vision, values, strategic goals, and priorities. Facilitates the adultlearning process by developing, planning, and presenting educational activities that directly or indirectly foster the development of staff competence. Utilizes an evidence-based approach when changes in nursingpractice are required and facilitates the initiation and adaptation to required changes. Provides ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of educational activities to ensurethe enhancement of staffdevelopment and promotion of cost-effective, high-quality healthcare. Serves as a resource to nursing staff, nursing students and other healthcare personnel in the acquisition of knowledge and skillsrelated to nursing care. Nurse Planner Designations (if appointed by management) Primary Nurse Planner The Primary Nurse Planner must be a registered nurse with at least a master's degree in nursing (MSN). The Primary Nurse Planner must have education or experience in the field of education or adult learning. The responsibilities of the Primary Nurse Planner are important to the development of continuing education units. The nurse planner ensures that all clinical objectives are being fulfilled. The Primary Nurse Planner will work closely with each individual hospital unit to ensure that all educational needs are being identified and met through various education programs. This position will be responsible for all education programs that have CEU, hours by tracking the completion of these activities including evaluations. The Primary Nurse Planner has an obligation to adhere to American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) Accreditation Standards and Guidelines. The Primary Nurse Planner will be a member of the planning committee. He/she will communicate feedback and recommendations regarding each program throughout the planning process. The Primary Nurse Planner will be responsible for planning, implementing, recording, evaluating, and storing all documents related to educational activities. Nurse Planner The Nurse Planner will be a registered nurse with at least a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN). The Nurse Planner will work closely with the Primary Nurse Planner to plan, implement and evaluate education programs. The Nurse Planner will assist the Primary Nurse Planner to identify educational needs within the hospital. The Nurse Planner will assist in the process of tracking and evaluating all continuing education (CEU) courses provided. The Nurse Planner position will request feedback from hospital professionals regarding needed education programs. The Nurse Planner has an obligation to adhere to ANCC Accreditation Standards and Guidelines. Qualifications Education: Associates degree in Nursing; Master's degree in Nursing required for those with possible Primary Nurse Planner designation. Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Licensure: Current RN license in the state of Arizona or compact state license. Certification: Current BLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. BLS Instructor certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 6 months of position hire date. Current ACLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross. ACLS Instructor certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 6 months of position hire date. Current PALS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. PALS Instructor certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 6 months of position hire date. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: N/A Preferences Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing. Certification: Current certification in area of specialization. Experience: One-year teaching experience. Special Position Requirements Exposure Categories: Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. Other potential Hazard(s): Volatile/violent patients or family members Work Requirements Excellent written andverbal communication skills. Computer literate. Occasional prolonged standing, walking, and sitting. Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs. Able to care for patients with infectious diseases. Able to sit for 3-5 hours per day; Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day; Able to walk for 3-5 hours day. Incumbent must be able to: distinguish appropriate colors. Capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level.
