What you'll do A Clinical Laboratory Technician II (Medical Laboratory Technician or MLT) performs clinical laboratory procedures and examinations which require limited exercise of independent judgment and which are performed under the supervision of a clinical laboratory technologist, laboratory supervisor, and/or director of a clinical laboratory. The Clinical Laboratory Technician II prioritizes tasks without intervention from the Manager/Technical Specialist/Supervisor. The Clinical Laboratory Technician II meets competency level at least for tests that are offered STAT in more than one technical area (Chem/Hem Micro/Blood Bank) and/or meets competency in sub-specialty area(s). The Clinical Laboratory Technician II actively assumes responsibility as primary operator of an analyzer, or specialized work area and works productively with minimal errors and follow-up. The Clinical Laboratory Technician II serves as a technical resource for other staff members, sharing knowledge pro-actively with other members of a section or shift or laboratory. Performs and verifies (reports) laboratory tests and/or prepares products for transfusion on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in a timely manner. Performs quality control (QC) processes and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned. Maintains laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies and documentation required in performance of job responsibilities. Follows all institution and department policies and procedures. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment. Review, and /or verify work of students, and/or nursing staff as assigned. Performs other duties within their scope of practice as assigned. Is self-directed. Prioritizes tasks without intervention from the Manager/Technical Specialist/Supervisor. Serves as a technical resource for other staff members, sharing knowledge pro-actively with other members of a section or shift or lab. Utilizes expertise in a designated specialty on a routine basis to benefit the department. Actively pursues responsibilities that are necessary to the department and that which provides professional growth to the individual employee. Is routinely self-motivated and enthusiastic. Uses time between patient testing to assist manager/technical specialist/supervisor. Follows up appropriately when problems are encountered in an independent manner. Is capable of prioritizing workload and assigned projects appropriately. Active participation in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement - must meet one of the four following goals: Actively participates in validations of new reagents / tests or instruments. Actively participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives. Actively participates in The Joint Commission Periodic Performance review data collection. Actively participates in AABB quality plan. Willingly participates and is actively involved in the training of students and new employees. Completes training documentation for each trainee/student for each area assigned, within the agreed time frame. Provides a positive training experience for staff/students as assigned. What we need from you Education: Qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technician in accordance with New York State Department of Health Regulations, required Experience: Minimum one year of experience in standard laboratory methodologies, required License/ Certification: Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technician required, or licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician, required. Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit. American Society for Clinical Pathology or other nationally recognized certification, preferred Skills: Communication Accountability Critical Thinking Computer Skills Multi-Tasking Accuracy Organizing/Categorizing records Time Management Physical Requirements: Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Pay Range Minimum: USD $23.31/Hr. Pay Range Maximum: USD $34.96/Hr.
