Job Description:

Seeking a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist to join our Health Information Management team at MSK. MSK links healthcare clinicians with information technology and is the link between patient's health information and health insurers, state and federal government, and other regulating agencies. Our mission is leadership in the management and timely provision of reliable clinical information to authorized requesters through advanced systems, continuous education and re-evaluation in support of the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer.


You Are:
  • An effective communicator, capable of determining how best to reach different audiences and executing communications based on that understanding

  • A good decision-maker, with shown success of making timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward

You Will:

  • Facilitate improvement to the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation.
  • Obtain appropriate and accurate clinical documentation that reflects the severity of illness and risk of mortality for inpatient discharges and assigning a working DRG.
  • Interact as an active member of the multi-disciplinary patient care team alongside physicians, allied health practitioners, case managers and other members of the patient care team to gather accurate and timely clinical information for abstraction into a designated CDIS database.
  • Query physicians and advanced practice practitioners using the approved query process in order to obtain clinical information.
  • Adhere to the standards of ethical coding per AHA ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and MSKCC internal coding guidelines.
  • Train and educate physicians and advanced practice practitioners in clinical documentation improvement.

You Have:

  • RN/clinical experience working in an inpatient setting
  • Inpatient clinical coding experience a plus
  • Information management skills necessary to communicate, explain, interpret and present information to employees, management and clinical staff of MSK
  • CDIP, CCDS and/or CCS certification/RN or other medical license preferred

Pl ease note this is a hybrid role based at 1275 York Avenue in NYC once a week.


Pay Range $ 98,500.00-$157,600.00
