Job Summary This safety-sensitive position is responsible for monitoring children within the designated childcare room. Monitors child activity and interacts appropriately with the children ensuring a safe environment. Examples of Essential Duties Monitors children of recreation center patrons. Provides for the safety and the well-being of each child. Monitors parents to ensure they sign-in and out for their children and abide by childcare policies Performs counter work, receives various forms and answers questions about Childcare operations. Enforces standard health codes. Maintains adult/child ratios at all times and finds coverage for any missed shifts Maintains the overall appearance of the Childcare area by cleaning up on a daily basis and disinfecting / sanitizing toys. Assists in the evacuation of the Childcare area in the event of an emergency. PERIPHERAL DUTIES: Performs general opening and closing procedures. Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be 18 years of age or older. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred. Current CPR/First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain upon hire is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience with children or related field preferred. A combination of education and experience to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of childcare practices. Knowledge of customer relations techniques. Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping. Knowledge of and ability to apply basic mathematic principles. Ability to effectively foster relationships with the public and to handle stressful situations. Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions, and the ability to issue clear concise verbal and/or written instructions to patrons and other employees and report operations both verbally or in written form. Ability to multi-task. Ability to analyze situations, thoroughly identify potential problems and find effective solutions. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public in answering questions and handling difficult complaints. Ability to perform general clerical work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative. Performs related work requiring accurate recording of data, counting and filing. Ability to work cooperatively with other departments, Town officials, outside agencies, and the general public. Ability to successfully implement philosophies, methods, policies and procedures that will assist in the achievement of Town and Department goals. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Children's toys, books, games, various electronic equipment including TV, DVD/CD player, cleaning/disinfectant chemicals, copy machine, play mats. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly frequently required to stand, walk and sit, use hands, fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds. On rare occasions, the employee may be required to climb and balance. Employee must communicate clearly and effectively; must understand and be understood. Must be able to frequently engage in ordinary or telephone conversations with speech and hearing. Employee must be able to consistently see with near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision and field vision. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust his or her focus, allowing a broad field of vision. It is essential that the employee be physically able to operate a variety of computer and office equipment successfully in order to fulfill the essential functions of this position. Need availability for the following shifts: Saturdays: 8:15am - 10:15am and 10:00am - 12:00pm Additional Hours may be available.
