Function: DCFS qualified teacher primarily responsible for planning and carrying out daily, age-appropriate activities for age group assigned. Based on staffing needs, may need to assist in other classrooms. Position will be responsible for classroom management, curriculum development and implementation, and performing related duties, plus follow all licensing and KC guidelines to ensure a safe environment for children. Organizational Relationship: Position reports to the Childrens Learning Center Director, who reports to the Dean of Career and Technical Education, who reports to the VP of Instruction, who reports to the President of the College. Qualifications: Compliance with Illinois Department of Children & Family Service educational requirements for child care center teachers: Required: 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of credit from an accredited college or university with six semester hours or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development from birth to age 6 or, One years (1,560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of college credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or none quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age 6 Or, Completion of a credential approved by DCFS (CDA or CCP credential) Must be 19 years of age Ability to work a flexible schedule and be flexible in performing daily Center duties. Strong communication, teamwork, organization, and planning skills Ability to pass DCFS background check Preferred: Have or be willing to obtain Certification in First Aid and CPR Have or be willing to obtain Food Managers certificate One or more years in a childcare or teaching setting Essential Functions: Plan and carry out daily age/development appropriate activities for children, including curriculum development Maintain a safe and orderly environment and model positive and respectful behavior Use positive guidance and redirection when interacting with the children Be responsible for the physical environment of the classroom and Childrens Learning Center Supervise children in various settings Maintain positive communication with parents and other Childrens Learning Center staff Prepare and maintain necessary records and documentation and follow DCFS regulations, policies, and procedures Support the centers success by partnering with Center staff and leadership to achieve goals around enrollment, accreditation, and engagement Provide other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibility: Position will assist in providing direction to teacher aides, student workers and practicum students Supervisory Controls: Position is expected to work with a minimum amount of supervision as part of the Childrens Learning Center team. Consultation with supervisor is available as needed. Guidelines: Position must follow all College policies and procedures along with all local, state, and federal laws. Position is also expected to adhere to and promote College core values of compassion, honesty, respect, fairness, and responsibility. Personal Relationships: Daily contact with college staff, community, parents and children. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Requires ability to lift children and sufficient agility to move with groups of children. Ability to work in a highly active, distracting, and noisy environment. Requires ability to travel for staff training.
