Job Summary:

The Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce(the Chamber) is committed to being The Champion of Business in our communities. Our mission is to foster economic development and provide learning opportunities for our members. Through a working partnership with all levels of government and community organizations, we provide an environment for our members to prosper, and we implement programs to grow new leaders that will help grow our cities and region.

The Chamber is searching for an innovative, decisive, high-energy leader skilled at building relationships for the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The ideal candidate will have the ability and vision to bring the organization forward and ensure the Chamber remains relevant in the changing environment. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors, Chamber staff, Chamber members, community stakeholders and government officials to promote economic growth, foster business development, and enhance the overall business climate within the Puyallup/Sumner region. As an office and community-based leadership position, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active, consistent physical presence in the communities they serve.

Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Strategic Planning:
  • Provide visionary and strategic leadership to the Chamber, ensuring alignment with the mission, vision, and goals of the organization.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans, initiatives, and programs to support the growth and success of local businesses.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work culture that encourages innovation, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Maintain a consistent presence in the office with employees to foster effective communication, provide guidance and support, and cultivate a strong sense of leadership and unity within the organization. This is not a remote position.
  1. Membership Engagement and Development:
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing Chamber members, ensuring their interests are represented.
  • Develop strategies to increase membership and control member attrition.
  • Develop, coordinate and oversee member services, including networking/fundraising events, educational programs, and business resources.
  1. Advocacy and Public Relations:
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for the Chamber, representing the organization's interests to local government, community organizations, and the media.
  • Stay informed about key issues affecting the local business community and actively engage in advocacy efforts to advance a favorable business environment.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with local, regional, and state government officials.
  • Serve as the CEO of the Puyallup/Sumner Chamber Foundation.
  1. Financial Management and Fundraising:
  • Develop and manage the Chamber's annual budget, ensuring financial stability and sustainability.
  • Identify and pursue diverse funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and fundraising events.
  • Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and fiscal accountability to the Board of Directors.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • Proven executive-level experience in a membership-based organization, chamber of commerce, or business association.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Knowledge of local economic development, business climate, and government affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets, fundraising, and financial reporting.
  • An excellent internal leader recognized for the ability to develop, motivate, and build functional teams that regularly achieve and maintain superior levels of performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a credible reputation and high-profile presence in the community on behalf of an organization.
  • Proven excellence in written and oral communication and proven media experience are essential.
  • Experience in soliciting and securing sponsorship dollars from public and private sectors is highly preferred.

COMPENSATION: $85K-100K Annual Salary

An annual increase shall be based on personal and organizational performance.

BONUS: Up to $10K based on CEO Annual Objectives Evaluation and Financial Performance. Determined by Executive Committee.

BENEFITS : Full medical, dental and accident insurance for employee.

STIPENDS/CAR ALLOWANCE: $100.00 per month stipend + mileage reimbursement

PTO: 20 days (160 hours) per calendar year with one week (40 hours) carryover allowed

HOLIDAY PAY: 11 Annual Holidays as identified in Employee Policies and Procedures Handbook

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm

40 hours per week in office. Any work that needs to get done outside of that timeframe can be conducted off site or at home. It is understood that events and other meetings may alter this schedule.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: up to $2,000 per year will be allocated in the budget to go towards the CEO's professional development in the way of tuition, business club membership, workshop, training, and other business resources and materials provided.

This is in addition to WACE and ACCE Chamber Conference participation.
