Duties 1: Performs developmental assignments in the application of professional principles, techniques, methods, and procedures relating to the investigation, analysis, and interpretation of the composition, molecular structure, and properties of substances, the transformations which they undergo, and the amounts of matter and energy included in these transformations. Performs moderately difficult and complex assignments consisting of well precedented tasks to further orient the employee in the application of occupational principles, methods, and techniques. Assignments are combined with training to develop analytical skills and techniques used to resolve issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature. Individual projects can be performed utilizing established, commonly applied methods. 2: Performs recurring assignments. Independently performs work assignments which gradually increase in difficulty and complexity. Incumbent determines the practices and procedures to use in accomplishing conventional tasks and interprets and adapts guidelines in order to resolve procedural or factual issues. Recommends solutions or a course of action for problems not covered by instructions, policies, or accepted practices of the occupation. The work consists of different and unrelated processes and methods requiring the employee to recognize conditions and elements that must be identified and analyzed to discern interrelationships. Searches technical literature, reports, and other reference material to locate information requested by senior personnel. 3: Carries out special projects and participates in special initiatives and studies. Performs special assignments in support of the organization; e.g., researching policy and comparing to new or modified guidelines to assess impact; analyzing and providing substantive evaluation of data affecting program operations; developing reports and briefings outlining study findings and recommendations; preparing and coordinating reference papers and documentation to support project initiatives; presenting reports to a variety of audiences; and performing analysis and providing recommendations to resolve issues. Works with other specialists in planning and conducting studies. Remains aware of emerging technologies and professional developments to stay current in the field and for application to work assignments. 4: Prepares written correspondence and other documentation. Drafts or prepares a variety of documents to include newsletter items, responses to routine inquiries, reports, letters, and other related documents. Uses software such as word processing, spreadsheets, program language, plotting software, etc., to facilitate work. Minimum GPA of 2.95 on a 4.0 grading scale Mobility - you may be required to relocate during or after completion of your training Opportunity for situational telework as determined by the unit Qualifications Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements: Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. or Combination of education and experience course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Professional knowledge of chemistry policies, theories, principles and concepts, and familiarity with other science disciplines to carry out conventional engineering assignments. 2. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply chemistry rules and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend effective solutions to senior chemists. 3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively, efficiently and persuasively communicate, orally and in writing, with people at all levels of government. 4. Knowledge of analytical chemical principles, theories and practices sufficient to perform a full range of complex analysis and investigative duties. 5. Ability to independently design and conduct investigations recommending appropriate courses of action. 6. Ability to independently accomplish administrative and technical programs 7.
