SUMMARY This chemist position will support the Deer Park Site by providing analytical and process chemistry support to the Main laboratory, field labs and process units. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May include, but are not limited to, the following: Support Main lab and unit field labs in analytical method development and support and troubleshooting of QC sampling and analysis Provide precise analyses by GC, HPLC, GPC, and spectroscopy in conformance with established methods including sample preparation (dilutions, extractions, filtration, etc.). Analyze consistent application of standardized QA/QC protocols involving laboratory preparations and instrument operations, data recording, reagents and calibration standard validation, etc. Provide preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on wet chemistry, GC, HPLC and other laboratory instruments. Polymer science understanding and support including: Molecular weight, Particle size distribution and Viscosity analysis Provide method development and support for spectroscopic methods including: FTIR: Understanding/identification of functional groups, Development and validation of analytical models using spectroscopy software, support installation of in process and lab bench FTNIR instrumentation. AA: Elemental analysis of different materials XRD/XRF: Understanding of Xray analysis LIMS: Familiarity with Thermo SampleManager, leverage SampleManager data for further use at Deer Park (Reporting, Automation, SQC, Statistical analysis) Design experiments for troubleshooting/improving analytical techniques using Minitab, Excel, and other software tools Plans, prepares and conducts laboratory and production trials for process improvement, cost reduction and/or waste minimization, as well as for new process development and customer complaint resolution Monitors production performance by reviewing parameters and key performance indicators; attends support meetings, leads cross-functional teams and identifies and champions opportunities for improvement Perform general lab responsibilities such as waste handling and housekeeping. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or equivalent degree required At least 3 years of hands-on experience in Analytical Techniques Proficient in sample preparation and basic wet chemistry Knowledge of chromatography/separation methods ; HPLC and GC analysis: Theory and practical method development Experience with preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of HPLC, GC instrumentation Experience with in process FTNIR technology and instrumentation including method development and troubleshooting of in process installations preferred Safety-first mindset and familiarity with hazards in an analytical lab including safe handling of hazardous material. Systems knowledge of SAP QM and LIMS preferred Should be able to work collaboratively with other unit Engineering resources, and Lab technicians Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written Proficient computer skills, with good working knowledge of all standard company applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) Ability to make sound decisions based upon technical information.
