The Department of OBGYN at MAHEC in Asheville, NC is seeking a visionary leader to help us transition into a bright future that successfully promotes a patient centered, team based approach within a FQHC framework, that is well prepared to evolve into a value based model of care.

We are proud of our longstanding culture that prioritizes equity in health care, patient and provider experience, and multidisciplinary teams. Our OBGYN physicians, midwives, and nurse practitioners work closely with embedded family medicine physicians, pharmacists, mental health experts, physical therapists, and public health advocates. It is in this environment that we are training OBGYN providers of the future. The local and national healthcare landscape is rapidly evolving, and our department hopes to adopt technical and systems based innovative solutions without undermining our unique institutional values.

MAHEC OBGYN is the regional safety net provider of preventive and GYN services as well as high-risk obstetrics with the only MFM sub specialists in the 16 counties of Western NC. Providers in our department started Project Cara to address the needs of pregnant patient with substance use disorders and are now expanding that expertise through a hub and spoke patient care model regionally and through national educational opportunities. Our OBGYN residents are trained by CNMs and OB Hospitalists on Labor and Delivery and MIGS trained GYN surgeons in the OR. They graduate with a complete set of skills, enabling them to practice full spectrum OBGYN immediately after graduation if desired. We also welcome more than 30 UNC medical students to Asheville from Chapel Hill for innovative longitudinal clinical rotations during their 3 rd and 4 th years.

We are seeking a Chair who will recognize the diverse talents of our faculty and staff, mentor individual providers to reach their potential, and guide our institution as we enter a new age of medicine.
