Job Responsibilities With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. This position is located at the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, Berkeley Community Mental Health Center, 403 Stoney Landing Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Under the direct supervision of a mental health professional, peer support specialists will assist patients and family in recovery from mental illnesses through services, advocacy, education, and support. They will promote recovery from mental illnesses with patients, families, professionals, and the community as a whole, including providing educational and awareness activities and materials and sharing own recovery story. Peer support specialists are responsible for the patient advocacy board, promoting inclusion in patient involvement in the Center. Minimum and Additional Requirements Experience in a social services program. High school diploma or GED equivalent. Current or former participant in mental health treatment. Certification (i.e. Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) or National Certified Peer Specialist (NCPS) Certification) Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.
