Position Summary:

This position is designed specifically to assist in promoting the physical, mental, emotional and social-being of students and staff at Turning Pointe Autism Foundation. The ability to establish great relationships with students, families, and staff that will facilitate a positive environment with a robust health services program is essential. The CNA works under the direction of a Nurse to aid in providing expertise and oversight of all areas of school health services.

Requirements

Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide assistance and support to the Nursing staff
  • Work as a team with Nursing staff to promote the physical, mental, emotional and social well-being of students and staff
  • Assist Nursing staff in collecting health data
  • Assist Nursing staff with maintaining a user-friendly and organized work environment with appropriate logs and health supplies
  • Maintain confidentiality in communication with appropriate staff and students regarding all school and health related matters
  • Assist Nursing staff with reviewing and maintaining all necessary records for the administration of medication as required by ISBE
  • Assist students in personal and intimate care
  • Be knowledgeable and assist with student health action plans
  • Perform other work and responsibilities as assigned

Experience & Skills:
  • Experience working in an educational, therapeutic, or similar environment with students impacted by autism or other developmentally disabling disorders
  • A calm and organized demeanor while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality
  • A proven track record as a team player

Physical Demands:
  • May include lifting and supporting up to 50 pounds
  • May be required to bend, stoop, and kneel
  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations
  • Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time
  • Moderate to high stress levels
  • Daily contact with students, teachers, and school staff
  • Regular contact with parents, community members and outside agency personnel
  • May be exposed to contact with individuals displaying physically aggressive, self-abusive, or socially undesirable behavior

Works Productively: Demonstrates responsible actions; consistently performs duties in a safe and conscientious manner within the agreed upon timeframe; follows standards, policies, and procedures; is reliable and is consistently punctual; actively participates in staff meetings, required trainings, and other work related activities; uses good judgment; uses Turning Pointe resources appropriately and efficiently.

Turning Pointe Autism Foundation will be able to maximize its ability to create better opportunities for students. Students will be better prepared for life and career success. The reputation of Turning Pointe's student programs will be elevated and its ability to assist more students will be enhanced.
