Position Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Program Director, the Certified Nurse Assistant has the responsibility to engage with patients and to assist in delivering personalized attention and support to patients living at the Cecil Hotel / Safe Landing Program. The CNA will help patients with navigating around the site or community, eating, dressing, and bathing as needed. This role works in close collaboration with the patient care team, further enriching the well-being of our patients and contributing to the positive ambiance and exceptional level of care maintained throughout our facility.

Program Population:

The Cecil Hotel/Safe Landing is an Interim Housing program that aids homeless individuals in their recovery journey, helping them improve their health conditions and enhance their social and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills, all with the ultimate aim of securing stable housing opportunities. Some of these individuals may also grapple with mental health and substance abuse issues, which can occasionally manifest in behaviors such as yelling, using strong language, and displaying anger outbursts. The core responsibility of each staff member at the Cecil Hotel is to support clients in surmounting obstacles and enhancing their coping mechanisms, thereby reducing negative behaviors.

Principal Responsibilities:

1.Performs job responsibilities in accordance with established policies, procedures, and within the scope of education and training, including:
  • Documenting patient responses to care and recording observations of their conditions.
  • Monitoring and assisting patients with the use of bed pans, urinals, commodes, and urine collection bags.
  • Supporting patient mobility within the facility for meals, activities, and appointments.
  • Aiding with meal assistance, hygiene, and grooming activities.
  • Collaborating with the client care team to ensure patient health and safety.
  • Promoting patient safety and maintaining environmental cleanliness.
  • Assisting the medical team in obtaining vital signs and weights when required.

2.Accurately documents relevant patient information following established protocols:
  • Records observations of patient responses to care and physical conditions.
  • Maintains clear and comprehensive documentation, including name, title, date, and time.
  • Adheres to DHS requirements for logging, documenting, and reporting patient status.

3.Maintains confidentiality rigorously:
  • Shares patient information only with appropriate personnel when relevant to care.
  • Safeguards documents containing patient identifiers.
  • Respects the confidentiality of information concerning fellow employees.

4.Demonstrates responsibility and adherence to organizational and department standards:
  • Reports absences to the Supervisor LVN as per departmental procedures.
  • Identifies and reports potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations.
  • Adheres to department guidelines for breaks and personal business.
  • Upholds a positive and professional image, following the organizational dress code.

5.Participates actively in organizational programs and committees:
  • Attends assigned staff and operational meetings, as well as training sessions.
  • Engages in safety programs, potentially serving on an emergency response team.
  • Undertakes other duties as required or assigned.

6.Exemplifies effective teamwork and interpersonal skills:
  • Approaches interactions with courtesy, mutual respect, and compassion.
  • Offers proactive and positive solutions to challenges.

Requirements:
  1. Minimum High School diploma or GED certificate.
  2. Licensed as Certified Nurse Assistant in accordance with the laws of the State of California.
  3. Minimum one-year experience in a health care setting.
  4. Current BLS Certificate from the American Heart Association.
  5. Must possess a caring and compassionate demeanor.
  6. Proficiency in working with diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds among clients, patients, and staff.
  7. Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
  8. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
