General Description:

The Guardrail/Pile Driver Operator's position is responsible for installing guardrail and bridge rail throughout the State of Alaska. CDL drivers preferred. The position is an equipment operator position. Employees are responsible for handling and installing all materials required. The operator shall perform general labor work along with assisting craftsmen in performing their tasks. Guardrail/Pile Driving Operators must apply sound judgement and understanding when carrying out detailed or uninvolved written and/or oral instructions.

This position will be responsible for driving CCI's Mission, Vision, and Values, a crucial part of the strategic plan to drive success. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Operate a tracked loader, excavator, post/pile driver preferred.
  • Knowledge of load securement, working around heavy equipment, working around high pressure lines.
  • Knowledgeable of air compressors
  • Ability to read and interpret safety manuals and warning signs, drawings, specifications, rigging diagrams and lifting capacity charts for equipment and load carrying.
  • Skilled in sufficient oral communication to be able to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and task.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, and volume.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Position may involve exposure to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors.
  • All assigned positions are on-call 24 hours/day while on shift or assigned temporarily to another project. Flexibility regarding hours of work is required as needed to meet demands of the job. Position may be recalled at any time during spill emergencies.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
  • This position may involve working with potentially hazardous materials and waste.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

  • Minimum 2 years' working experience in some form of construction or equipment operating is required.
  • Position requires minimum equipment experience and knowledge of working around equipment.

  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • CDL preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fencing or Guard rail experience.
  • Confined space training is preferred.
  • 24 Hr. Hazwoper Certified
  • Five (5) year related experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee's ability to perform to the job standard. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet. Shoveling up to 20 lbs. Frequent walking and standing. Occasional keyboard use, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
  • LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 70 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from waist level to shoulder height and carry 70 pounds for 20 feet.
  • RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurement will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
