Job Summary: The CDL examiner is responsible for conducting CDL skills examination for licensing commercial drivers. CDL Examiners will maintain the highest level of quality, uniformity and reliability while keeping the highest safety standards in all situations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety and Compliance
  • Inspect equipment for safety and compliance with State and Federal testing standards.
  • Determines the physical and driving qualifications of employees for conformance to the established standards necessary for safe driving.
  • Determines vehicle characteristics to ensure appropriate tests are administered.
  • Actively participates in all training events of new regulations and reviewing current regulations regularly.

Operational Management
  • Input CDL skills test appointments in reporting/scheduling programs, as well as confirming all requirements have been met.
  • Review documents for eligibility for CDL skills test.

Quality Assurance
  • Continually reviewing the CDL Examiner's Manual, State and Federal testing/training materials.
  • Mandatory refresher training to stay in compliance with State and Federal regulations.

Reporting and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of tests conducted.
  • Reporting of tests administered in a timely manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • In-depth knowledge of both State and Federal regulations pertaining to the CDL program and how to reference such regulations.
  • Ability to work with sensitive materials and maintain confidentiality and appropriate discretion.
  • Proficient in technology and software relevant to conducting CDL skills examinations.
  • Works effectively in team environment, participating and assisting their peers.
  • Participates in the development and evaluation of program objectives and procedures.
  • Effective problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time on blacktop and other surfaces.
  • Ability to be outside for extended periods of time, in all weather conditions.
  • Flexibility with assigned working hours
  • The schedule for this position may require flexibility, including some weekends and overtime, based on the needs of the agency. This position is not eligible for telework.

  • This position requires employees be able to stand up to eight hours a day and lift 10-50 pounds on a regular basis, as needed.
  • Must report to work on a regular and timely basis and have exceptional attendance.
  • Performs other incidental duties as may be required.

Requirements:

At least three (3) years of instructor experience. Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License w/passenger & airbrake endorsements.
