Summary of the Hopelink CDL Bus Driver Transportation position: The Hopelink CDL Driver provides safe, courteous, and on-time transportation to customers in vans, minibuses, or small buses, adhering to traffic regulations and maintaining schedules/routes. The driver communicates respectfully while providing excellent customer service to passengers.

What you will be doing:
  • Provide safe, courteous, and on-time transportation to customers in vans, minibuses or small buses; adhere to traffic regulations.
  • Communicate and interact with individuals of various backgrounds and abilities; communicate with dispatchers by radio and provides verbal and written reports.
  • Assist and secure passengers; provide special assistance as needed, such as opening doors, operating wheelchair lift, escorting to buildings and the like.

  • Communicate respectfully with people regardless of age, race, gender, religion, color, national origin, marital status, the presence of any physical, sensory, or mental disability, sexual orientation, political ideology, gender identity, military status, genetic information, or any other expression of diversity.

  • Maintain schedules on regular or special routes; collect fares, issue transfers; provide verbal information to the public regarding routes, schedule and transfer points; determine safest and most efficient routes to specific address.
  • Inspect vehicle before and after operation; clean vehicle interior and exterior as needed; fuel and perform minor maintenance on vehicle.
  • Maintain punctuality and regular attendance in order to provide dependable service to the public.
  • Attendance at monthly and quarterly Driver staff meetings is mandatory.
  • Maintain a professional and positive working relationship with clients, vendors, volunteers, donors, and fellow staff and adheres to the Hopelink Standards of Conduct.

Your qualities:

The DART Driver must meet these minimum qualifications:
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Be able to provide Proof of Permanent Residency.
    • Acceptable documentation includes:
        • US Passport
        • US Issued Birth Certificate
        • Permanent Resident Card
        • Certificate of Naturalization
        • Certificate of Citizenship
        • Consular Report of Birth Abroad

  • Must be able to pass a DOT Medical Examination

  • Hold a valid driver's license for at least five (5) years within the United States
  • No suspensions or revocations of drivers license in the last three (3) years
  • Hold, or have the ability to obtain a CDL Learner's Permit with Passenger Endorsements
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience providing customer service to the general public
  • Computer/technology proficiency: ability to use MS Office 365, MS Outlook, and online systems including timekeeping, and program specific systems, etc.
  • Have an acceptable driving record at the time of offer. Any of the following violations within the last three (3) years will automatically disqualify you from consideration:
    • Driving while intoxicated
    • Driving while under the influence of drugs
    • Negligent homicide arising out of use of a motor vehicle (Gross Negligence)
    • Operating a motor vehicle during a period of suspension or revocation
    • Using a motor vehicle in the commission of a felony
    • Aggravated assault with a motor vehicle
    • Operating a motor vehicle without the owner's authority
    • Permitting an unlicensed person to drive
    • Reckless driving
    • Spedding contest
    • Hit and run
    • Three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years
    • Three (3) or more collisions, regardless of fault, in the past three(3) years
    • Any combination of accidents and/or violations which equal four (4) or more in the past three (3) years
  • Have reliable transportation to work
  • Be able to speak, read and write in English
  • Have an acceptable work history and employment references
  • Be available for all shifts including weekdays and weekends

  • This position is a Service Critical Employee with specific attendance requirements. Because of the critical nature of this role to Hopelink operations, it is important that you are able to:

    • Report to the worksite during your scheduled hours, regardless of weather conditions or other emergencies.
    • Manage your own transportation needs in adverse weather, including possible limitations to public transportation options.
    • Have a specific plan to address any other possible attendance barriers that arise during adverse weather and other emergencies, such as disrupted utilities or public services, road closures, school closures, etc.

Due to Federal Regulations, this position is considered a Safety Sensitive Position, therefore employees are required to undergo a full criminal background check and pre-employment Federal DOT drug screening, and are subject to random screenings, which include THC among other restricted substances.

  • Regular work tasks involve moving items weighing up to 40 pounds, occasionally.

  • Physical movement is needed to assist riders who utilize mobility devices in and out of the vehicle, including tying down wheelchairs and assisting with wheelchair lift.
  • This job operates a vehicle for many hours at a time with long periods of sitting.
  • Duties are primarily performed in the field under varied weather conditions.
  • This job also operates in a professional office environment. Work tasks involve routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines; accessing office machinery, mail room, or filing cabinets, etc. may involve physical movement within the office space.
  • This job includes the ability to judge, inspect, and perceive details at a close range.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately noisy.

Licenses, certificates, and other requirements:
  • Valid Washington State drivers license with acceptable driving history
  • Valid CDL or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Valid DOT medical certification card
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must have reliable transportation to adhere to service critical employee attendance requirements
  • Subject to pre-employment & random drug testing
