The Delivery Driver is responsible for making deliveries to Graeter's wholesale and retail customers on predetermined local route. The successful candidate while at each location will unload their truck and perform receiving procedures such as product check in and put away. The driver will make planned pickups of other raw ingredients and packaging as needed. Drivers are a representative of Graeter's Manufacturing Company and will be required to uphold the highest level of customer service standards.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 3:00am-1:30pm, Saturdays as needed in the summer.

Starting Pay Range: up to $32.50 (based on experience and work history)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Loading, securing and unloading product in company truck.
  • Proper loading and unloading of freight to assure safety and minimal risk of damage to cargo and danger to people. Driver offloads by lift gate or receiving dock at accounts.
  • Products are labeled by store location and are wheeled onto the truck with a cart system and secured.
  • Placing ice cream in customer's freezer on carts or hand stacking ice cream products in customer freezers as needed.
  • Driver will work in cooperation with Graeter's customers, following all receiving procedures; inspecting product and ensuring correct and accurate paperwork and documentation.
  • Development and maintain a professional and effective relationship between the company and the customer.
  • Picking up raw ingredients and packaging from supplier as needed.

Safely operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
  • Driver will safely drive to store locations while complying with all laws related to operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle and adhering to company policy. Most deliveries occur at back door, however there will be street, alley or parking lots deliveries.
  • Safe and legal operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Safe and timely transportation of freight from origin to destination.
  • Professional representation of the company through responsible driving.
  • Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and document the condition of the truck via inspection log.
  • Maintain records required for compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all Federal, State and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Report all accidents and/ or incidents involving driver or company equipment

Cleaning and general maintenance of company truck.
  • Maintain interior and exterior of vehicle and keep clean and neat
  • Driver will inspect and report on condition of vehicle and perform DVIR
  • Driver will clean and wash out trailers according to company SOP

Additional responsibilities required as defined by management.

COMPETENCIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Ability to push, pull and maneuver carts up to 750 10-20 times for a regular shift of 8-9 hours at manufacturing or customer locations. Includes ramps, streets and sidewalks with declines and inclines
  • Ability to lift and move up to 75 1-5 times for a regular scheduled shift of 8-9 hours
  • Ability to lift and move up to 20 200-400 times for a regular scheduled shift of 8-9 hours
  • Ability to regularly bend, squat and twist with product of up to 20 to 30 for 200-400 times per shift of 8-9 hours
  • Ability to push or pull loads on pallets or two wheelers up to 125 10-20 times for a regular shift of 8-9 hours
  • Ability to load equipment and supplies into and out of vehicles on lift gate with cart stops
  • Ability to regularly enter and exit the rear of a Commercial Motor Vehicle truck with 48"-52" floor height
  • Have basic knowledge of main state routes and highway directions and competent with GPS or other mapping programs
  • Have ability to do some overnights throughout the year

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Education: High School Graduate or GED
  • Must possess the minimum of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
  • Other technical knowledge: Previous food delivery experience preferred
  • Years experience in workplace: Up to 2 years' experience operating CDL A truck
  • Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation
  • Clean driving record
  • DOT physical, pre-employment background check and drug screen

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment that one will encounter while performing this job description is the natural outdoor elements such as heat and humidity, rain and snow. The facility environment is one typical of a food manufacturing; characteristics include walk-in freezers, walk-in refrigerators, food production areas and warehouse. Environment also includes wet and slippery locations, stairs and freight elevators.
