Job Description CONTROLLER
$75K to $84K
Are you a mature and seasoned Controller in a non-profit environment? Do you have experience working with or for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities? Center for the Developmentally Disabled (CDD) is searching for a seasoned Controller with three to five years' experience with 3rd party billing, private pay billing, payroll, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, billing, accounts payable, month-end closing, month-end financials, and monthly departmental financials. You would also oversee a small finance staff of four to five who perform accounts payable, accounts receivable, and personal accounting. We are a high-volume and fast-paced environment, but we all have a passion for what we do.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Controller is accountable for the tactical financial operations of the organization. This includes maintaining accounting procedures, processes, and policies; supervising accounting department operations; ensuring the accurate processing of accounting transactions; maintaining a functional chart of accounts; preparing financial reports; preparing the annual budget; monitoring and reporting variances to the budget.
Essential Functions

  • Manages purchasing approvals and ensuring that organizational funds are used to further the mission of the organization.
  • Monitors all income, i.e., room/board, ResHab, donations, grants, investments, etc. to ensure monies received are recorded and used for the intended purpose.
  • Ensures that staff maintain financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Monitors employee time worked versus budget and addresses variances with supervisors
  • Reviews payroll prior to final submission.
  • Implements annual budget.
  • Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results monthly; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances for the organization and all related entities.
  • Reports financial status by reporting results for internal and external purposes; analyzes variances; recommends improvements.
  • Manage month-end closing activities in partnership with other accounting staff.
  • Responsible for financial compliance of HUD projects including requesting adequate rents, financial management, and budgeting.
  • Backs up Payroll Specialist, Accounts Payable Specialist, and Accounting Manager in his/her absence.
  • Assists CFO in the coordination of all audit activities.

Supervisory Responsibility
Will supervise Accounting Manager, Payroll Coordinator, and Accounts Payable Specialist.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Also requires walking up and down stairs may be required in the event the elevator is nonfunctional. Also, walking to and from offices as needed and standing.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are: Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm with the understanding that occasional after-hours work may be needed.
Travel
Occasional travel to and from meetings within and outside the metropolitan area may be required as well.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Two or more years of related experience
  • Knowledge of payroll and accounting software and related functions
  • Experience with managing contracts
  • Insurance procurement
